I wake up in the morning to the sound of mumered voices. Marty is sitting on Herman's old bed, watching me.

"Marty?" I ask, sitting up, rubbing the sleep from my eyes. "What's going on?"

Marty's glazed eyes focus on mine, and he smiles, but it doesn't reach his eyes. "Good morning, Jay," he says.

"What's going on?" I ask, my voice louder now that I'm awake.

"Commander Wiggin hasn't come by yet, and we're supposed to have the new soldiers come this morning,"

"Oh," I say, blinking. "Why is everyone worried then? People run late ya know."

Mary rolls his eyes, getting up. He walks over to his bed and and sits down on it, his head in his hands.

I get up and grab my practice suit and walk to the bathrooms. As I shower, I hear some one singing Talking To The Moon by Bruno Mars. It's an old song, but some of us still listened to it. I find myself singing along under my breath.

The other person stops singing, but I continue, my voice echoes around the bathroom. After finishing up, I get dressed, still singing. When I come out of my shower cubicle, I come face to face with the other person.

She is leaning against the couter, arms crossed over her chest, and a wet towel drapped over her arm. Her practice suite is wet from her damp red hair. She is looking at me, a shy smile on her face and a light red tint to her cheeks.

“Hi,” I say, suddenly embarrassed and shy.

“Hi,” she says back in a quiet voice.

“What’s your name?” I ask. “I’m Jaden.”

“Baleigh,” she replies.

“What army are you in?”

“I’m transferring to Dragon.”

“Oh, really?” I exclaim. “I’m in Dragon army.”

“Cool,” she says with a shrug of her shoulders.

I smile. “You have a beautiful voice.”

“Thanks, you too,” she says back. “You know, you’re the first person who’s not my friend to hear me sing.”

“Huh,” I say. “Well, I better be getting back to the room. See ya soon,” I say, waving at her while I walk out of the bathroom.

I walk down the halls back to where the rest of the army is, taking my time through the halls.

When I walk into the room, I see Drew standing in the entranceway, looking at the row of soldiers. I pause in the doorway, scared that he would notice that I was standing behind him.

“Next time, Jaden, be on time,” Drew says with out looking over his shoulder at me.

“I’ll try, sir,” I say, walking around him and to my bed quickly. I can feel Marty’s smile on my back. Throwing my stuff on my bed, I turn and stand like the others around me.

“Our new soldiers will be here at any point, be ready,” Drew continues. “Please treat them better then you did Jaden.” And he left the room.

I sink on the bottom bunk and shove my dirty cloths into my locker. I feel the bed sink and look over to see Marty sitting next to me.

“How ya doing?” He asks, looking concerned. “I know it must be hard, loosing two of the first friends you made on the first day.”

“I’m fine, thanks though.” I shrug my shoulders. “I think I might have made another friend today. She’s one the transfers coming today.”

“Oh, really?” he asks with a roll of his green eyes.

“Really,” I say back, bumping his shoulder with my own, smiling. “But she will never replace you, Marty.”

He looks at me, the goofy smile back. Marty laughs loudly, drawing the attention of some of the others. They give us smiles then return to their conversations.

“You need to smile more,” Marty says.

“Really? I don’t smile enough already?” I ask, smiling more.

“No, you don’t.”

I roll my eyes, earning another laugh, this one quieter. Suddenly, all the muttering stops and gazes switch to the doorway.

Marty and I stand up at walk to the aisle way. In the doorway stand two girls. One of them is Baleigh. The other one has dark frizzy curls that are pulled back from her face.

“Welcome to Dragon Army,” Marty says, walking forward, smiling. I follow behind him. “I’m Marty.”

“And I’m Jaden,” I say from behind him, looking over his shoulder.

“I’m Baleigh,” Baleigh says nodding at me.

“And I’m Arrianna,” says the other girl.
