Jaden's POV

Its been two years since I came to Battle School. I'm one of the commanders of Griffon Army. My name is Jaden May-Wiggin. I have a cousin named Drew, who commands Dragon Army, and the greatest group of friends ever. And I'm going to have to betray them all.

General Ley says it's almost time for me to leave, to go to the next school, so I can be a leader and protect the Earth. But I don't want to lead. I just want to go home. I didn't want to become a leader, I didn't even want to go to Battle School. But I had to. I'm a threat to my family, and the IF knows it.

They're going to have to kill me. Maybe not now, but eventually. I'm too dangerous. I know too much. I scare them, so I have to die. And that's truly okay with me.

No one knows about the things that I can do, except the I.F., and that's the only reason I'm here, I guess. So, I'm going to tell you. I am what people would call a monster. I can plan for events that haven't happened yet, for things that might not happen. Within a heartbeat, I can tell which side of a war is going to win; I can even change that. I'm a super strategist. I can see things in ways the others can't. I can see fifteen different ways to get to one goal without killing anyone, and three different ways to kill everyone.

You see why they're so scared of me?

I have to play dumb here, or else people will get to suspicious, and we can't have that. I can't tell anyone. I have to lie to everyone about why I'm so distant.

I read the words that are written across the desktop. Shaking my head, I save and shut it down just as a knock comes at the door.

"Come in," I yell, picking up a book and flipping to a random page.

The door opens with a almost silent swish and closes, leaving Drew standing in the doorway. "Hey Jaden."

"Hey," I say, setting the book down. "What's up?"

"I could ask you the same thing," he says, sitting on the edge of the bed. "General Ley wants to talk to you."

"How old are you, Drew?" I ask.

"I'll be sixteen in a couple of weeks," he says, smiling. "Why?"

"Isn't about time they moved you up?" I ask, shaking my head.

"They'll move me when I'm ready, Jay," he tells me. "Why do you ask?"

I shake my head again, shrugging as I get to my feet. "It's just on my mind. Ley told me I'm leaving soon."

Drew looks up at me. "Congrats."

"Yeah," I say with a snort. "Sure. I just want to go home, Drew."

"You get to, right?" Drew asks, standing up too. "That's what they told us when we got here."

I shrug and walk into the hall to find Jack leaning against the opposite wall. "Jack."

"Hey, Jaden," He says, standing up straight, looking over at Drew cautiously.

"What's up?" I ask, looking up at him. He had grown a lot since we first met two years ago. He was about as tall as Drew and I came up to about their shoulders. "Is something wrong?"

"What? No," He says with an awkward shrug. "I just came to see if you were coming to practice."

"Shit," I mutter. Louder, I say, "I forgot, sorry. I was just on my way to General Ley's office."

"Oh, okay," Jack says, sounding a bit hurt. "I'll tell Sabrina to go on without you again."

"Thanks," I say, smiling apologetically.
