CHANDELIER (MADDIE ZIEGLER) [In Editing]

Chapter 1

Mackenzie POV

" Maddie what are you doing!" I shout and she jumps back

"N-nothing" She stutters

"Really, because it looks like you were about to swing from the chandelier"

"So?" She asks

"Are you insane! You'd probably fall and die" I yell

"Exactly" She huffs and storms into her room

What did she mean by 'exactly', was she really about to.... ? It's like she's going mad. Everyone is always putting too much pressure on her and she's having a problem dealing with it. I need to get her help.

"Mom" I say entering the kitchen

"Yes sweetie?" She asks

"I think Maddie should take a break from dance. The pressure is too much and I think she was about to k-"

"Nonsense, Maddie loves dancing. Just because she had one bad performance, doesn't mean she needs a break" Mom cuts me off

"But mom she was about to k-" I start, only to be cut off by mom again.

"She's fine Mackenzie, now stop worrying and leave me alone" mom huffs and I run upstairs into Maddie's room.

I barge in without knocking too find a depressed looking Maddie crying and running her fingers through her hair. No offence, but she looks like a wreck. Her hair is matted, make up running, her eyes are red and puffy. I walk over to her and hug her, letting her cry into my shoulder. After a while the crying stops and she sits up, wiping her eyes.

"S-sorry I messed up your shirt" She sniffs and I shrug

"I don't like this shirt anyway" I smile " You know Mads, I think you were amazing"

"Sure" she replies sarcastically " I needed to be perfect but I wasn't. You won your age division, you were great."

"So were you. You don't have to be perfect to be great" I mean every word I say, Maddie really was great. My words seem to click with her, because the life has returned to her eyes and she seems almost happy.

Maddie POV

"Nia I can't go to your party" I sigh " I got a B+ on my algebra test. I had a perfect GPA before this. I have a make up test to change this grade"

She sighs in defeat as I shut my locker, I turn around to be face to face with the Wicked Witch of the West and her crew aka Kalani Hilliker, Chloe Lukasiak and Kendall Vertes. On the show we're all best friends, in real life.,. Not so much.

"What do you want" Nia spits

"I just wanted to congratulate Maddie on tenth place" Kalani smirks, causing Kendall and Chloe to giggle. I just roll my eyes and try to leave, but they block me.

"Thanks" I smile bitterly

"Just wanted to let you know I got first overall in the teen division.Oh and an A on that algebra test. How much did you get?" She asks even though she knows the answer

" A B+" Chloe answers for me" Looks like Kalani beat you"

"That's because this is her third time in fifth grade" I mumble and Nia stifles a laugh.

"Well see you around" She smiles. Looks like the witch has no comeback. "Oh and Abby asked me to join the team. Good luck"

I guess I spoke too soon

"Ugh I thought she would never leave" I groan

"Yeah I thought that diss of yours would shut her up" Nia laughs

"Now we have to see her at the studio. Why couldn't she stay in Arizona?" I sigh

"Because no one wanted her there" Nia says and I burst out laughing

"Okay girls and moms, time for pyramid" Abby shouts and we all run into the studio

I take a spot between Kenzie and Nia, my only friends. I fret as I remember the events of last competition. I can't think straight anymore.

" On the bottom of the pyramid for the very first time is Maddie" Abby says and I begin to cry, but quickly wipe away the tears. "You forgot your solo at a big competition. They have a very bad first impression of you" I just nod at her statement

"At the top of the pyramid is our newest member Kalani" Abby smiles and Kalani runs in, giving Abby a hug, then giving me one. The producer told us that we have to act like besties for the show. I don't think I can do this.

"But she didn't even compete with us last time. How is that fair?" I yell and everyone seems surprised by my actions.

After a ten minute scolding from Abby and my mom, she issues out the dances. Chloe, Kenzie, Kalani and I have a solo. Kalani and I also have a duet called ' Two Sapphires'

Kalani POV

"You guys aren't together" Abby yells

When Maddie is close enough I trip her, causing her to fall on her face.

"I'm so sorry"I lie

"Aren't you always" She replies sarcastically after informing Abby that she was okay. I really hope they don't edit that out of the show, because that fall was epic.

30 minutes later, our duet rehearsal is over and we go into the dressing room. Maddie begins to do her homework... nerd. The director tells us that we need to act like best friends, so we put out our best acting skills.

"Hey Mads did you see the new One Direction music video?" I squeal pulling out my phone to show her

"Omg, Niall is so sexy and he just turned into Liam. This video is perfect" She smiles

Seriously, she couldn't act better than that? I wonder how she's got to be on Drop Dead Diva a few years ago...

After an hour of acting like besties, we finally leave to go home. Thank God. I don't know how much longer I could have lasted with her.

Maddie POV

That was the longest hour of my life. My head is hurting from having to hear that little Minnie mouse voice of hers. Ugh she thinks it's so cute, give me a break.

I decide to go downstairs for an Advil. On the way down I stop and stare at the chandelier. I feel myself gravitating towards it. I slowly reach out to touch it, before I'm snapped back to my senses. I run downstairs and grab an Advil and some water, chugging it down quickly.

"Jeez Maddie, calm down" Kenzie laughs as I pull the empty cup away from my mouth

"Headache, that's all" I smile

"Is that headache called Kalani?" She asks and I smile. I love how she gets me so well.

"Yeah" I sigh

"She's a real pain in the butt. Not to mention that voice of hers. I mean which 13 year old talks like she just sucked in a balloon full of helium." We both have a good laugh

We spend the next hour making fun of Kalani. For the first time in forever (a/n haha frozen fan) I had real fun.

I whisper a prayer before going to bed.

"Dear Lord, please let my life get better. Right now Kenzie and Nia are the only good things in my life. Please let it change for the better. Amen." I close my eyes and drift off into a deep sleep
