Emma's POV

I guess I did end up drifting off at some point because I awoke abruptly from a nightmare, panting and sweating like a pig. My fight of light instincts kick in and I have a strong urge to run for the hills. In this moment, I forget about Tyler as I fumble my way to the door, trying to open it.

Only, to my dismay, it's locked. Of course, my dad would make me a prisoner in my own home.

My eyes dart across the room, looking for other possible escape routes. The window is the only thing I can see. I open it, looking out on the city and letting the cool breeze caress my cheeks.

I always seem to forget I'm on the 15th floor. But I have a really dumb idea. It's really stupid, but if you haven't already noticed, I'm absolutely insane.

Logan's POV

I am napping peacefully when my phone starts buzzing. Groggily, I sit up and reach for my phone. Annoyance quickly sweeps over me once I pick it up.

It's Dante.

"Ugh, what?" I groan.

"The girl is not at her apartment again. She somehow escaped."

Anger is an understatement of how I am feeling right now. She sure has some nerve doing that to us twice in a row. She needs to learn her lesson about the consequences of defying me. I will gladly teach it to her...

"Logan? Hey man, are you there?"

"Yeah," I let my anger sizzle as I refocus on Dante.

"Her old man said that he locked her in her bedroom all night. The only other way out of her room would be through the window but she's up on the 15th floor."
My eyes widen and my mouth becomes dry, "Did she jump?"

"I don't think so but we are about to go check."

I am beyond pissed. She can't kill herself. That's so selfish. She can't do that.

She should be thankful she gets to escape poverty and live in luxury alongside me. If anything, I'm the one who should be upset about our arrangement.

"Logan, we checked downstairs and it seems that she didn't jump," I exhale in relief, "But she somehow escaped. We talked to her next door neighbor who said she jumped onto her balcony and--"

"I'm on my way," I cut off Dante before hanging up.

Boy, she is going to be in some serious trouble once we find her.

Emma's POV

My legs move at the speed of lightning. My adrenaline pumps through my body. I can't believe what I just did. I jumped from my window onto the balcony of Mrs. Harriet. She never locks her balcony door so I entered inside. I knew my way around because I used to cat sit for her all the time.

But reality seeps back into the forefront of my mind to bite me in the ass. They must've figured out that I've escaped by now.

I have to make it to Jack's before they find can me.
Once my irrational side settled down a little, I promised myself that I will go along with the deal for the sake of Tyler but first I need to see Jack. It's not fair for me not to tell him. I wish I told him last night. Gosh, I'm so stupid.

Just one more block... I'm so close.

I pull to a halt once I reach his driveway. Standing next to two sports cars that I don't know the name of (I don't know the first thing about cars) are Logan and one of his friends I assume. They both wear angry expressions.
