Ship: This is short for relationship. The relationship between two characters. Sometimes their names are mashed together (Ex. Larry Stylinson - Louis Tomlinson and Harry Styles or Destiel - Dean Winchester and Castiel)
Shipping: The act of putting two people together as a ship
Shipper: The person who does the act of shipping
Smut: Another way to say an erotic story. do not read if you are under 13.
Sorkining – fast-paced sanctimonious speechifying with a liberal bent. Can be Ambulatory Sorkining (brisk walking down office hallways) or Stationary.
Squee – portmanteau of the words "squeal" and "glee." Natural onomatopoeic noise released from the fangirl when she is excited.
Squeeflail – When a fangirl produces the "squee" sound while moving her body in excitement, usually imitating a bird flapping its wings.
Stan – portmanteau of "stalker" and "fan." Also sometimes refers to a fan who is less concerned with ships and more focused on the celebrity/character as an individual.
Sweeps week – Periods where rates for TV ads are set based on the number of viewers. Originated when the Nielson Company sent TV Diaries to households and asked them to record their TV viewing habits. Usually something dramatic or shark jumping happens on shows to increase viewership. This method is a dying practice, however, with many shows no longer on traditional networks and fewer seasons running on the fall to spring schedule.
Slow Burn -- refers to stories featuring characters who gradually and naturally fall in love or lust before beginning a romantic or sexual relationship.
Slash: Slash implies that one or more relationship is homosexual i.e. Male/Male.It is also referred to as "M/M", and "yaoi". In a slash pairing, the names are listed in the order of "dominance". The dominant male goes first. If there is no "dominant" male, then the names are listed in alphabetical order. Compare with "femslash" and "het".
Self-Insert: A self-insert is a kind of Original Character where the author of the fanfiction inserts themselves into their story. Most self-insert fanfictions are AU, although there are some that follow canon when based on games.
SJW: "Social Justice Warrior" is a term of nonfannish origin that is used frequently in fandom due to interest in social justice issues in parts of fandom. The terms "Social Justice Warrior" and especially the abbreviation SJW are generally used pejoratively.
Shipmate: Someone who ships the same people as you do.
