Phil sat quietly at the table, the group surrounding seemed almost completely dismissive of his existence. If he was to be ignored for the majority of his time why was he forced by his mother to sit at the meeting? It's not as if his fathers business meetings were to his interest.

"Philip" Mrs. Shelby, a wife of one of the businessmen called out to Phil with her petite yet posh voice.

"Yes ma'am?" Phil answered politely once he snapped back from his thoughts.
"Have you read the paper as of late?" She asked, out of what Phil assumed was similar boredom.

"Why I have yet to," At least Phil could make conversation "why has something happened, Mrs. Shelby?" He asked, beginning to gain curiosity.

"Ah well Philip, do you know the small lower class shopping center just downtown?"

"Yes,I happened to have gotten the chance to visit it a couple of times" Phil's curiosity growing by the second. Mrs. Shelby seemed to make an inch of a scowl towards the idea of Phil associating with a class under his own.

"A man and a woman (!) were caught red handed with bags of hundreds of dollars shamelessly stolen. The wretched boy was locked up while the poor girl was assumed to be kidnapped and let go." Mrs. Shelby finished her quick explanation, but before Phil could ask any questions, the woman was turned away distracted by her husbands words towards her. Phil thought he heard Mr. Shelby scolding his wife for speaking too loud. He probably did since he after saw Mrs. Shelby pursing her lipstick coated lips and looking down. Phil felt bad, she probably felt like a nuisance after that interaction with the boring husband.

Phil averted his blue eyes to his mother who was absentmindedly swishing a metal spoon around in her tea, seeming to not be bothered by the audible clinking against the china tea cup. She realized that her son noticed her boredom and gave him a soft smile.

The next morning Phil decided to go out for a stroll and maybe decide to investigate what Mrs. Shelby was so enthused about. 20 year old Phil Lester couldn't help but give into his own curiosity of course.
Not too far along into his search, he found a paperboy and paid his couple if cents for the paper. Out of sheer generosity Phil gave the young boy an extra dollar. The boy gratefully took the dollar and smiled brightly towards Phil, only to find that the smile was contagious and Phil found himself smiling too. The paperboy eagerly gave Phil his paper
"Enjoy sir! And have a fantastic day!" The boy waved happily

Phil was excited to discover something new and hadn't need to look as the front page already had what he was searching for.
