(His thoughts)

I've been awake for maybe several hours now, just laying down on my bed looking up the ceiling. Was I too obvious? That's what a normal person would do, I think. It's not like I'll just let her help herself.

I never thought this day would happen. What would happen when we see each other again? Would she even remember?

I had somehow dozed off, the next thing I know my alarm was blaring at me. I begrudgingly got up. I did my business in the bathroom and went downstairs.

"Good morning, ma." I kissed her on the cheek and sat down at the stool near the kitchen island.

"Good morning." she greets as she flips the pancake on the pan. "so," prolonging the word, "what did you do yesterday?"

"I met up with my group mates for our project proposal in PSYCH." not making eye contact.

Mom nods and made a sound of agreement, but sounding suspicious. "Who were you with then?"

"Daphne was there, Rhea, Christian and Evangeline." Trying my hardest to sound nonchalant as possible.

"How's Daphne?" Internally rolling my eyes at my mother, she seems to think that I secretly fancy Daphne.

"She's fine, ma, still her energetic self." I groaned.

She prepares me a stack of pancakes on a plate. "What else did you do?" she says while passing me the milk, sugar and butter. She busies herself on the stove again. Silence takes over us. I know what she's trying to do.

"We went out for drinks" I finally sigh. Her head snaps in my direction, she raises an eyebrow at me in question. Nope, not going to fall for that trick. I just continue preparing my pancakes, slathering it with butter and sugar then pouring the milk on it. Yum indeed!

I look up to glance at my mother and see her hands on her hips. "What?" I shrug.

"You can't just say that, tell me what happened." She demanded, returning to her cooking.

"But that's it we went out for drinks." I defended myself, and started eating my pancakes.

Her look says she doesn't believe me. "What? You're telling me you went out to a bar, sat there and just drink?"

I nodded, "Yup, that sums it up." Getting up from my seat and grabbing two empty glasses and a jug of water then sat back down.

She narrows her eyes at me. "No! I would not believe that my son doesn't know how to make a move." She pounded the counter top. She seems determined. "At least, tell me that you got Daphne home."

"No, mom she says she was staying at her cousin's condo which was near the bar we stayed at." I calmly explained to her.

She turns of the stove, goes near me. "Jairus," she put her free hand on my shoulder, "if you want, as your mother, I can teach you how to make a move." I glance from the hand on my shoulder to her sympathetic face. "You know because I don't want you to end up alone. And I would want grand-"

"Mother." I breathed out a huge sigh. "You don't have to. I'm going up now, to take a shower." I tried to remove her hand from my shoulder subtly, but then she takes my hand.

"I'm just concerned for you, you know." Shaking her head.

"I know." I tried to remove my hand and patting her hand, "Thank you, I appreciate it, mom." I stood up, "You also better get ready, so that we can leave early." I tried changing the topic.

Her face lights up at the excite, "Where are we going this time?"

I grin at her, "It's a secret." I kissed her cheek and thank her for breakfast, I immediately turned to walk towards the stairs, before she begins to ramble on further.
