Chapter 2:

Even if she got out of the taxi at the end of the road, Mindy could feel the heavy bass thump under the soles of her feet from Sebastian's house. Pulling the snug leather jacket tighter around her, she made her way towards the beautiful mansion.

Mindy eyed the large, quiet houses she passed by. An old couple somewhere was probably trying to sleep through the noise and mentally apologized on behalf of his friend.

"Man," Mindy mumbled to herself when she caught sight of the house. It wasn't even eleven and yet it looked trashed. Tonight she wasn't allowing herself the company of alcoholic drinks. She was planning to stay very much sober. Not with the devilish hangover that loomed over her the whole morning.

She opened the lavish front doors to be nearly knocked off her feet by some raging hooligans that looked as though they tried to ram the front door open. The three burly men—Mindy recognized them as guys on the football team—hit the pavement with a sickening thud and a chorus of groans. Mindy stood pressed against the wall with her hands raised, disbelief written on her face. Okay, next time, check when some drunks are going to come barreling towards you.

She moved swiftly through the tight hallway, trying to find any one of her friends. She spotted the party host sprawled on the couch, making out with a familiar girl who she was so sure she had in one of her classes. She arched a brow when they made gross, sloppy noises. She turned on her heel, a disgusted wrinkle on her nose when she heard him call out her name.

She twisted her head to see the chestnut haired boy pulling away his partner dazed and turned on, her eyes chasing his form like a kid eyeing a Christmas present on Christmas Eve. When Sebastian stood in front of her, she flashed him a smile. "Congratulations Sebastian. You're officially out of high school!" She grinned brightly at him, hands on his strong shoulders to steady him from swaying side to side.

Sebastian blinked confusedly, before he mirrored the grin on her face. Mindy fought the urge to roll her eyes. She knew that he had momentarily forgotten his recent achievement after copious amounts of alcohol. He got drunk like that.

"God and I thought I was going to have to repeat another year! College here I come!" He says with a slight slur.

Mindy was secretly upset that Sebastian was going to leave town by the end of the summer. He was going to study in some university that she couldn't remember the name of; only knowing that it was one of the best schools in the country for dentistry, his designated course.

He was going to be three hours away by car, and Mindy was glad that she could drive to meet him. Way better than Alfie, who she knew from Sebastian that he was eight hours away. Not that she ever thought to visit him.

The thing about drunk Sebastian was that he had terrible mood swings. He was grinning at her then suddenly he whacked her on the back of her head, his face furious. "What the hell happened last night?!" Mindy grimaced.

"We thought something terrible happened to you," Sebastian berated. "Chloe left you for five minutes to go to the bathroom then she comes back and hears that you were whisked away!"

"Relax, Sebastian. It wasn't like that," defended Mindy. "Alfie took me home. I didn't know where Chloe suddenly went and thought she left me there."

Sebastian blinked at me. "Alfie Emerson?"

Mindy nodded. "Yeah, you know, he was a year older than you in school, my neighbor and your best friend. Ring a bell?"

Sebastian rolled his eyes. "You know what I mean."

Mindy shrugged, looking away from his eyes. "It was okay."

All of Mindy's friends knew the heartbreak of her life aka Alfred Stan Emerson.
