Chapter 8:

"Marcus. I didn't know you were out of jail."

The lanky blonde slowly stepped down the stairs, his fingers gliding on the banister. "Can't I say hi to my friend? After all you're 18 now." He smiled sadistically when he crouches in front of her, tilting her chin up with a finger to get a better look at her face. "Have you seen Hadley? I've been trying to call her but she seemed to change her number."

"Hadley doesn't want anything to do with you, you sick bastard." She growled out. Marcus' long, dirty nails dug into the skin of her chin where he was gripping her and she flinched away from his touch. She knew better than to aggravate the situation but the anger that has festered for what he has done to Hadley in the past suddenly rushed out from where she had kept it hidden.

"Come on, just call Hadley out here so we can talk. I need to speak to her," He begs, almost desperately with his grey eyes. Mindy shook her head, face contorted in disgust. She shoved him away and stood up, hoping her shaky knees would not be evident.

"Get the fuck out of here, Marcus. None of us want you here any longer. You're disgusting." She spat out.

"PLEASE!" Marcus growled, hitting the pillar above Mindy's head forcefully. His face was now contorted with anger that sent a dagger of fear through Mindy's gut.

It had happened all too fast. At one moment, she was throwing her drink into his face. He hissed in pain when the drink gets into his eyes, taking a step back. She scrambles to the door, but unluckily her feet got caught in his grasp and she was dragged back.

Then he was above her. She faintly wondered if Hadley felt this on that one particular night, the terror that came with the adrenaline. His sick breath on her face and his weight pinning her down. His sudden proximity made her heart thrash wildly in her chest. Hands wrapped around her neck before she could blink.

And the pain Mindy felt was something she had never thought was fathomable. She cannot breathe. Her chest was burning, her eyes were on fire and she gasps and claws and tries to breathe but all she could do was choke out in pain as tears welled in her eyes, causing her vision to blur.

She writhed and pushed and punched but her actions were only replied with a sadistic laugh and an even tighter hold and she pleaded to whoever was out there to just make it stop.

But it does not.

"Tell me again," He growls, bringing her face up nearer to him; Mindy mewls. "Where is Hadley or I'll break your neck."

And then he suddenly lets go of her neck and her head thumps onto the ground and after a second of unbearable pain, finally, everything goes black.

The taste in his mouth was terrible and he was pretty sure he wasn't walking in a straight line any longer. He was looking for his horse head, which he had lost earlier that night. He wanted to wear it again, partly because he wanted to party in it, but mostly because he looked dumb in just a brown suit. He could not remember exactly where he had last seen it, but for some reason his feet led him to the kitchen.

He blinked at the bright light, rubbing his eyes as he enters the deserted room. His whole house was dimly lit with pin lights that when he entered, he had to have a moment to get used to the white light the lamp overhead his kitchen island illuminated.
