Black. So, you know how people say that some skydivers pass out? Ya, i think i just passed out. God my head hurts.
I groan and try to open my eyes.
Why does everything hurt? Why is it so dang bright?
"Hey, turn off the lights!" I was expecting an answer, probably from Star.
"Well now, unless you have power over the sun i reckon that would be impossible miss."
But not that. Definitely not that.
"What? What are you talking about? Just flip the switch!" I pry my eyes open. "What the. Where am i? This isn't Hannaford!"
"Hannaford? Don't know where that is on t' map, but i reckon it ain't near here." I look over and immediately regret it. Just kill me now. Of course it's a cute boy. Cute by Star's standards i mean. Not mine. I groan again.
"I swear when i get back Star is gonna pay for this." He looked confused.
"Sorry, who? Is that some kind of, i don't now, celestial being?"
"What? No! No. Star's my sister." I paused and looked around "where even am i?" The boy beamed with pride.
"Why little missy, you're in the new capitol of New RedHood, Prial!" He stuck a stupid grin on his face that i wanted to whip off.
"New, RedHood? Prial? Where the heck? What continent are we? Who's the president? What year is it?"
The boy just gapped at her "You don't know of New RedHood and the Eighty Year Massacre?"
I blinked at him. "No, am i supposed to?"
He all but screamed in my ear, "YES!" He paused remembering my other questions "well, I ain't know what a con-tie-gnat is or a pass-it-dent, but the year is 1809." I sat upright
"1809!! T-that's crazy! I-i-it was 3108!" Now the boy looked at me like i was crazy.
"Clearly the fall addled your head." I gave the boy a long hard stare.
"I'm pretty sure i know what year I'm from." I started to get up.
"Whoa now, you
ain't gettin up f'r quite some time there missy." He lowered me back onto the cot.
"Stop calling me 'missy' I'm not your little lady." He sighed.
"Then what'm i gonna call ya?"
"Blue."
"Blue? That's an odd name."
"This is an odd time."
"What? 1809? It is a perfect time! We were just named the new capitol!" I paled.
"Wait, what's the date." He looked at me funny.
"Why, i do believe it to be week 3 of the Harvest Sun." I paled even more, if that was possible.
"Are ya alright? Ya look like ye saw a ghost."
"No I'm not fine. In fact none of you are fine. And the 'Eighty Year Massacre' isn't over. Where I'm from, its known as the 'Hundred Year Massacre'." He just laughed.
"Lookie her mis-uh Blue. The Aubs just signed the peace treaty." I started to cry.
"Welp. Good luck then." There was a shout and a gun fire outside that prevented him from replying.
"Hold here. I think it's that crazy guy again." Muffled shouts of protest, more gunshots and he dashed out the door. Leaving me to struggle behind him.
When i got to the scene Blue was already there holding two men apart. Well, a man and a boy.
"YOU CAN'T JUST BRING YER NONSENSE INTO MAH TAVERN YA HEAR!"
"IT WOULDN'T BE NONSENSE IF YA'LL LISTEN TO ME!"
"WHOA WHOA WHOA! CAN YA KEEP IT DOWN!" The boy interrupted the younger from replying.
"BOTH YALL GOTTA COOL YA HEADS." The lowered their fists, but he kept them separated nonetheless.
I stumbled closer. Shielding my eyes from the harsh sun.
"What's all this about?" Everybody turned towards me.
"What in tarnation is she wearin!"
"Why is she so, so, so White!"
"It ain't natural."
"YOU!" They turned their attention to the boy that had started the fight. "YOU KNOW! TELL THEM! TELL THEM!! WE'RE ALL GONNA DIE AINT WE!"
"OH BULL! WE AIN'T GONNA DIE! WE GOT THE TURNER TO KEEP THAT FROM HAPPENING!" Everybody shut up at the mention of that.
"Jack." The original boy turned a steely glare towards the older man who looked paler than a piece of paper. "You better run along now and get outta here before Mayor Gradshill hears about this little slip up."
The man called Jack just nodded mutely and hightailed it out of there.
"So." He turned towards the other boy "what are we gonna do 'bout you."
"Please Drako, y'all know I ain't lying! Ask her!" He pointed to me.
"Say what?" I looked stunned "what isn't he lying about?"
"She ain't even talk right!" I heard whispered.
"How about you shut your mouth." I responded. The boy Drako sucked in a breath. A new voice arose, deeper and more confident.
"Why don't you mind yer manners." I gritted my teeth and whirled around.
"Why don't you mind ya own business." I felt a hand pull me back.
"She ain't mean that Mayor Gradshill"
"I do as heck mean it." I said whirling around and punching the boy called Drako in the nose. "And don't touch me." He stumbled back holding his face.
"What the. Girl ya got some 'splainin ta do."
"My name. Isn't. Girl." I punctuated every word with a step towards him. "It's Blue."
