"Grover, what's going on?" I demanded as Percy and I followed him through the streets.
"I'm your protector- both of you," answered Grover as he continued to urge us on towards Percy's family's apartment.
I scoffed as Percy said, "I don't know if you're seeing this, Grover... you're on crutches!"
Grover ignored the comment as we continued through the swarms of people milling around, instead saying, "We need to tell your Mom, so she can take us to camp."
"Wait, my Mom knows about this whole thing? She knew this would happen?" Percy asked, in a state of shock.
"Does my Mom not know?" I asked, a little put out.
"Percy, yes your Mom knows, and yes, Casey, so does your Mom, it's just that she's unavailable to take us there, but she will be told by Mr Brunner, I assure you."
By now we had reached Percy's apartment and we all ran up the steps inside and banged on the door. Sally Jackson, Percy's Mom, opened the door with a flustered expression on her face.
"Sally, more beer," demanded her bald slob of a husband, Gabe.
"Mom, I need to talk to you," said Percy.
"She's serving us, if you couldn't see," Gabe said patronisingly.
"Shut up, pig," I begged, rolling my eyes.
"What did you call me, girly?" he got up, but Grover hit him in the balls with his crutches.
"Like I said, I'm your protector," he reasoned, "Sally we've gotta go."
Sally nodded ushering us out of the apartment and we all climbed in Gabe's car, me wedged in the back with Grover while Percy sat up front with his Mom.
By the time night had fallen, we had been driving for what seemed like an age. I was practically falling asleep in the back, but I stirred jerkily when Percy brought up the subject of the camp, eager to learn more.
"So the camp is for special people, so what? Am I crazy? Are Case and I crazy?" he asked.
"No, of course not!" his Mom said, "Percy this has to do with your father," then she turned to me and continued, "Oh he was like nobody I had ever met, absolutely breathtaking."
I smiled at her. Sally deserved that. Somebody who could take her breath away; she does so much for people and gets Gabe in return? How is that in any way fair?
"Then you came along, Percy, and everything was perfect.... but he had to leave."
"So he abandoned us?" Percy questioned, clearly not amused at the subject of his father.
"No! He was forced to! Percy he loved you; leaving you was probably the hardest thing he ever did," Sally defended.
"Then why did he leave?" Percy asked, but I was on edge because I could have sworn I heard something. It sounded like a..... moo?
"Because he-"
"Sally, look out!" cried Grover, and suddenly the car was flipped and we all screamed.
Tumbling over and over with the car, I felt something snap, and cried in pain, until we came to a halt, and I was left panting for much needed oxygen.
"Percy!" Sally cried from her seat.
"Mom you okay?" he asked, and she nodded.
"Grover okay?" he repeated, earning a 'yeah'.
"Casey?"
"Erm..." I could feel that my side was wet and sticky.
"Oh God," Percy whispered, looking at my wound.
Then Grover did the unthinkable in such a situation as this and began to take off his trousers!
"What are you doing?" I managed, hoarsely.
"I'm your protector," he said for the second time that day.
"And you're half ass?" asked Percy, bewildered, and I let out a pained laugh.
"No; I'm half goat."
Smashing the window glass, he told us to follow him but to be careful. Percy helped me out, but my ribs hurt. Clutching my side and holding Percy's hand with my other, I ran as we all followed Grover into the woods, me staring down the cow that had been thrown to stop us form driving any further down the road.
"Come on guys!" Grover urged, having ditched his crutches as he scampered deeper into the woods, "We're almost there!"
Sally was on one side of me, and Percy on the other, both helping me keep running along, but the pain in my side was making my eyes sting. Then I felt it... the ground shook as if some giant was pounding his feet. My eyes flashed with pure fear as I looked to Percy for comfort, hoping that he'd tell me to wake up, and that this was all a nightmare. But he didn't. In fact, he looked like he wanted someone to tell him the exact same thing.
"DUCK!" Grover yelled as he looked back at us, and Percy threw himself to the ground with me next so that I wouldn't hurt my side any more.
Looking forward, I saw Sally's car smoking and crumpled in a heap, but didn't have much time to dwell on it as the footsteps were getting closer. Percy and Sally hauled me up again, and dragged me towards Grover, who was stood by an archway, ushering us inside. Then when Sally tried to follow, it was as if she was denied entrance by an invisible barrier. I frowned in confusion as Percy told his Mom to come through the arch.
"I can't, Percy," she apologised before she was heaved off her feet, screaming.
Looking up, I gulped. Sally was in the fist of a giant bull-thing, which I could only recognise as being a Minotaur. Just then, Percy dashed out of the archway and into the open, in front of the beast.
"Percy!" I screamed, following in quick succession.
Grover tried to stop me, but I was already out. Percy was telling the beast to put his mother down, and I was screaming the same thing... but I was starting to feel a little light-headed...
The Minotaur ignored Percy, instead shaking Sally until she.... vaporised is the only way I can describe it, into golden mist. I didn't comprehend much after that, just Percy talking with Grover and then unleashing a sword from... somewhere. I looked down at my wound though, which was still gushing blood. Everything around me went silent and I could only hear my own heartbeat pounding in my head. I tried to go to the guys for help but stumbled. Then everything went black....
