Jennie's POV —6:21 pm—
"Jennie. Get dressed please. We are having guests over." I hear my mom say.
"Who?" I ask
"A co worker, her husband and son." She yells back
"Ok." I say back. I close my laptop and then get up and walk to my closet. I then grab a simple outfit. Nothing fancy.

I strip and throw everything on and then walk to my vanity. Not really being a makeup person, I just apply some mascara and chapstick. I run a brush through my blonde hair and throw on some black socks. I spray perfume and then grab my phone and jog downstairs. I walk into the kitchen and help my mom set up.

"Why guests all of a sudden?" I ask. We rarely have guest over cuz my mom is always busy and she knows I'm not keen on meeting new people.
"No special reason. Just wanted to have them over. Your dad will be home soon." She says and I nod. Almost on cue. The front door opens and closes.
"I'm home." I hear my dad yell. He walks into the kitchen and gives me a side hug and kisses my moms forehead.
"Are the Gilinsky's almost here?" He asks and my mom nods
"Yes. I'm hoping Jennie and Jack will get along." She says looking at me.
"If your looking for us to date. I doubt it. People don't like me mom. And I'm very picky about who I date." I say
"Your 18 going on 19 though. You should be settling down." She says and I roll my eyes. I'm living with my parents still to go through college. Once I'm done I'll move out. That was our deal. And my mom thinks I should be thinking about getting married and having kids. Which I'm not. I'm perfectly fine for a little. A knock on the front door interrupts my thoughts. My mom shoots me a look and then her and my dad walk into the hall to the front door. I peek around the corner as she opens the door. A women and a man about my parents age, stand there holding a bottle of champagne. My mom greets them with a hug and my dad bro hugs the man. They both step in and then a guy about my age walks in. He's not bad looking but definitely not the type I like. He greets my parents and then they start to walk to the kitchen. I duck back into the kitchen and sit down at the table and play with the napkin.
"And this is our daughter, Jennie. Jennie this is Katherine and David, and their son Jack." My mom says. I get up and greet them with a hug or a hand shake. Getting a closer look at Jack, he kinda looks hungover. Greatttt. A party dude. Everyone sits down while my mom grabs some glasses. She pops the champagne and I just get some water. I'm not into drinking. I'm also not legal sooo. My mom say what everything is and then we all start to eat.
"So Jennie. Your mom told me your in school?" Kathrine says and I nod, but don't say anything.
"She's going for her masters in psychology." My mom says.
"How cool." Kathrine says nodding. Everyone eats and occasionally talks. Once we are done eating, I help my mom clean up while everyone else goes into the living room.
"If wouldn't hurt you to talk to Jack." She says
"I think it would." I say back and she laughs. We both walk into the living room and I go and sit in the love seat by the couch my parents are sitting at.
"Alright. One last thing to discuss tonight." My mom says.
"All of us have been talking.." My mom trails
"And we've all agreed that you guys are gonna get married!" Kathrine says excitedly. I look at my mom and shake my head
"Oh come on Jennie. You'll be fine." She says
"Yea no." Jack says shaking his head.
"Uh yes." Kathrine says to him
"No. I'm not getting married." He says shaking his head
"That's very rude Jack. Your getting married and that's it. You need to start settling down." She says and he rolls his eyes
"Not with my career. I'm constantly going going going." He says
"And your constantly partying partying partying. Having someone else to care for will hopefully stop your partying." She tells him
"Having someone to care for will just be like more baggage added to the stress I already have." He exclaims
"Jennie is a independent girl. I'm sure she'll be fine but that doesn't mean you don't have to take care of her." Kathrine says motioning to me.
"How old is She?" He asks looking at me
"18." I say
"18? Are you kidding me? Screw my feelings, she still has a lot of her life to live." He says pointing to me, while looking at our parents."
"Listen. It's finally. The wedding is in 5 months. That's it, understood? You guys will move in together within the next two months." My mom says and Kathrine nods
"You guys have an appointment tomorrow for some of the planning stuff. Laura and I will meet you guys there." Kathrine says pointing to my mom.
"So exchange numbers please." My mom says.
"I'm not agreeing to this." Jack says.
"I'm not either." I say. Jack seems a little taken back at the fact that that's the most I've said this evening. But he quickly hides it with his angry, pissed off expression.
"We don't care. It's happening. That's all." My mom says and Kathrine agrees. Jack and I exchange numbers and then they all get up. My mom and dad say bye to them with side hugs or bro shakes and I just wave and say bye. The door closes and that's when I let it out
"Are you being serious? What the hell made you think that you should marry me off to some strangers son you met at work? This is insane! Absolutely insane!" I yell and then storm upstairs and into my room. I close my door and then walk to my bed and collapse on it. I then take my phone out of my pocket and text my friends in the group chat
To Dads of the West 😂🤞🏻
Can y'all meet me a Starbucks by the mall?? IMPORTANT!!
I send it and then grab my keys and bag. I slip on some shoes and then throw my hair in a bun. I open my door and walk out an downstairs.
"Where are you going?" My mom asks
"You think I'm old enough to get married. So I'm old enough to not tell you where I'm going. I'll be back whenever. Don't wait up." I say and walk out closing the door. I walk to my car and get in, start it and head to Starbucks.
