Awsten had woken up a few hours after the doctor had left the room. Geoff had held his hand the entire time he was present, though he had finally fallen asleep once it had passed two in the morning. Otto and Grace were asleep on one of the benches on the other side of the room.
"H-Huh?" Awsten mumbled, looking over at the brunette who had a death grip on his hand. He pulled his hand away from him, feeling uncomfortable. He looked around the room, studying his surroundings. He furrowed his eyebrows at the sight of the curly-haired boy cuddling with the pink-haired girl.
Geoff noticed the movements, waking up quickly once he noticed that Awsten was awake.
"Awsten," Geoff said quietly, staring at the boy in awe. "Oh, thank god, you're alive."
"Y-yeah, I g-guess?" Awsten said slowly, trying to piece together who was talking to him. "I-I, what happened?"
"You were in a bad car accident," Geoff answered. "The doctors said you have some slight brain damage and a broken leg, but nothing too detrimental. They said you'll need surgery to fix your ACL, though."
"Oh," Awsten mumbled.
"I love you so much, Awsten," Geoff smiled, pecking the boy's cheek. Awsten moved away, showing obvious discomfort. Geoff furrowed his eyebrows. "Are you okay?"
"I... I'm sorry, I, I don't know who you are," Awsten said. Geoff felt a few tears brimming his eyes, looking away from the blue-boy's eyes.
"It's... It's Geoff, baby, it's your boyfriend, G-Geoff," the brunette stuttered. He grabbed Awsten's hand, holding up his left hand. "L-Look, it's the p-promise r-ring I gave you last y-year, Aws, i-it's Geoff, baby, please, y-you've gotta remember me."
"I... I'm sorry, Geoff," Awsten said, frowning. He hated seeing the man so torn up, but he didn't remember at all who he was. He felt guilty.
Geoff looked over at Otto, who was now awake, in alarm. Otto was worried, softly moving Grace's shoulder to wake her up.
"Baby, p-please," Geoff pleaded, tears sliding down his rosy cheeks. "P-please remember me, Blueberry, I l-love you, I, I can't lose y-you."
"I'm so, so sorry, Geoff," Awsten repeated, his face falling as Geoff broke out into hysterical sobs.
Otto stood up, quickly pulling Geoff out of the room, muttering, "Okay, it's time to go."
Grace walked over and sat down next to Awsten, looking at him with her glossy green eyes.
"How are you?" she asked him, her face laced with genuine concern and care. Awsten shuffled around, wincing at the sudden pain that shot through his leg.
"Uncomfortable," Awsten answered. "I... I don't know any of you a-and, I, I don't really remember really anything."
"What can you tell me, that you remember?" Grace asked softly.
"Uh, my name, it's Awsten Knight, uh, I don't know my middle name or my birthday or my parents are anything. I know I'm twenty-one, uh... I know that this is Texas, but I don't know the city or if I have a job or if there's anything I like or if I hate it here o-or anything," Awsten replied, frowning. "I don't know my personality. I don't know your name or the curly-haired boy's name and I don't know who Geoff is, either."
"Well, I'm Grace," she said, smiling. "The poodle is my boyfriend, Otto. Otto has also been your best friend since the seventh grade, so eight years."
"What year is it?" Awsten asked.
"It's 2013," she answered. "Your birthday is in January, it passed a couple months ago."
"Did I drink?" Awsten asked. She shook her head.
"You loathe alcohol," she said. "Said that you won't touch it because you hate how it makes you feel and that you don't want to be held back by it."
"What was I like?" Awsten questioned.
"Well, uh, I haven't really been friends with you ever since we broke up," Grace answered, pursing her lips.
"When did we date?"
"We started dating in 2005 when I met you in math class," she said. "We were both deep into our scene phases, god, it was bad. You had a Myspace and everything! You even had a band called The Blue Poptarts and your most famous song was called All The Dinosaurs Are Dead."
"Scene phase?" Awsten asked, furrowing his eyebrows. "I don't understand. And, uh... What's a Myspace?"
"It's a social media website," Grace said. "I'll show you later. But we broke in in 2008."
"Why?" Awsten asked. "You seem very nice."
"It wasn't really a bad breakup or anything," Grace shrugged. "We just... Didn't really feel it, I guess."
"Oh," Awsten said. "Why weren't we friends, then?"
"We had a fight and you said some pretty mean things," she answered. "But it's... It's been five years now, it's in the past."
"I'm sorry," he apologized, frowning. "You seem very nice."
