A New Life

The Beginning of Everything (Edited)

Zain is a 17 years old, he is 173cm tall with a blonde curly, short and rough hair. He likes to go on long walks. 

4 Days ago, he was on a walk and saw a huge group of police, ambulances, and fire fighting vehicles around the nuclear reactor near his city. Out of curiosity, he wanted to know what's happening there so he decided to check it out.

As everyone was distracted by what's happening no one noticed him going through the gate. all of the vehicles around the reactor were ready for any explosion or fire. The good thing is that whatever happens will not affect the outer area as it is protected by an invisible barrier made by the state-of-the-art technologies that reflects all radiations back inside.

A man in a lab coat who was taller than Zain by at least 7 cm stood outside with a terrified expression on his face. Zain asked him:

"Sir, what is happening in there?" As everything looked fine from the outside.

"WHAT ARE YOU DOING IN HERE?? ITS DANGEROUS IN HERE!!"

"Relax sir, I'm just curious. Such dangerous experiences are what I live for! I will even help if needed!"

With a quick check on Zain the man says " We we're testing this newly modified suit that lasts forever under nuclear radiations on one of our men when a sudden short in the electricity came up followed by a sound of an explosion. We panicked and wanted to leave when a huge steel piece fell on the head of the man in the new suit. We wanted to help him but we couldn't since our suits can only last for 5 minutes in there or they will melt or damage our body directly, so we had to leave. We were a team of three with the man in the new suit. Once we were almost out when some other steel pieces from fell from the ceiling damaging our suits making them unusable anymore. We called the police and told them what happened. They brought a tailor with them to fix our suits. And so he did, but the suits were smaller now as the tailor had to remove the extremely damaged parts of them making the suits smaller on us. And as you can see, everyone here is my size or bigger so there is no one to wear it now to rescue the man...." 

Zain had a small smile on his face and said " I AM smaller than you, let me try that suit and go in there to help!"

"It's extremely dangerous, you might lose your life in there! Are you serious??"

"I totally am! I told you I like to live dangerously! And I will be happy if I was able to prove that your new suit works totally fine!"

"I warn you one last time! You might lose your life in their!"

"I am ready for anything! And I'm quite confident in today's technologies!"

The man, amazed by Zain's courage explained the situation to the police and got Zain ready for the rescue. He explained everything as he was instructing him how to wear the suit and describing how to reach the poor man, then sent him in. 

"Remember! You have 5 minutes, if you felt like there is no time come back out right away!"

With a nod, Zain turns around and disappears into the reactor...

The men outside waited as they counted the time, 1 minute, 2, 3, 4 they started getting more and more anxious as time ticked by. 5 minutes are gone and Zain is still inside. 15 seconds later he was out with the other man on his shoulder with a huge smile on his face.

"You were 15 seconds late!!"

"Will they amount to significant damage?"

"I'm not sure, let's get you examined" 

Zain put the man in the new suit in an ambulance then went with the first man to a specialized vehicle for these kind of checks. 

No one is allowed in the vehicle other than the examined person who is Zain in this case, the specialized man was checking Zain's status in a computer and the result didn't seem nice. An extremely small hole was found in Zain's suit that let whatever radiation in there to be stuck in the suit with direct contact with Zain's body.

Zain went out and saw the shocked and sad face on the man, and got worried in return. "What's wrong?" He asked

"Amm.. I-I can't ..I'm sorry my dear, there was a hole in your suit, your body is affected with radiations everywhere, you will most likely suffer for a few days then might eventually..... die. I'm sorry.."

"Chill up mate, I did it of my own free will! It wasn't your fault that my suit had a hole. And look at the bright side as well! I was able to prove the efficiency of the new suit, your friend is all good! It was a pretty nice experience for myself that I was ready for any result" Zain seemed untroubled while he had a lingering fear. This is the first time he would ever feel close to death.

"Anyway, we will have to keep you in a well protected room. A doctor and a nurse will check you twice a day. We don't know how long you will last but you will have to be patient. There might be some hope... Let's just your bravery "

"I've got no problem with that, just keep this a secret from the school unless my condition get worsen."

With a nod, the man turns around and leaves the place while Zain was taken to the mentioned room.

The room was a typical hospital room, a big window and a bed on the right of the room. A sink and a bathroom. It was quite white as well.

Zain didn't feel any pain or strange feelings throughout the first few days, but he definitely felt his body changing, he felt like he became a bit shorter while his hair got noticably longer and softer. He didn't really care much as his doctor told him that he is miraculously getting better and is expected to be normal in a month. So in fact, Zain was starting to feel much more cheerful upon hearing that he'll be fine, so some changes to his body where a small price to pay for getting exposed to gamma radiations... Or so he thought.

School had already started at the beginning of that week, so Zain asked for his books so that he keeps up with his class. No one was allowed in that room other than his doctor and nurse, while even these two had to wear at least a mask and try to shorten their contact with him as much as possible for their own safety. Zain wasn't allowed to leave his room either.

One week passed with only minor changes in his body.
