you think you'd get used to it

seeing their back walking away from you

watching the door close between you

hearing that sound as finality

a sign that they really are gone

but no matter how many times

i see you back out of the drive

it never gets easier saying goodbye

It hurts just as much now

as it did a hundred times ago

i hold back my tears

because i can't let you know

if you only knew how much

it hurts me to see you cry

i can't do the same to you

it wouldn't be right

i've always been the rock

but the further away you get

i cant help but give in

to weakness

to pain

to love

thats what it comes down to

every time you leave

my heart breaks again

i know you'll come back

but i have no idea when

life is too much

to go through alone
