Don't Worry - Tokyo Ghoul AU (Gene)

Pretty excited for this one only bc I'm basing it off an anime I love so much. Head of the time I'm sorry for somewhat slower updates just bc I'm back in school and such. Plus I'm trying to do better in school now
A/N : Heads up Dante and Gene aren't related! Gene is an only child in this and Dante just one of his buddies. (Ha Dante isn't even mentioned) so proud of myself bc I did this in a day aka yesterday.

"Still not answering your calls?" Aphmau asked you, biting your inner cheek and nod. It's been at least two weeks since anyone seen Gene. Aka your boyfriend. Well kinda before you both were kinda of friends with benefits.... Yet you and Gene started taking your relationship seriously and to the next level. He barely got the confidences to ask you out before he disappeared. It made you worry. You and Gene best friend Aphmau was there to comfort you. Yet she always had the pity smile. Like she wasn't telling you something. Yet you were too worried to notice a thing.
"Yes! First he gets into an accident then he just disappears!?? No one knows where he is and it's about to be three weeks?!?" You pulled on your hair stressed out. Your about ready to cry...again.. Your life already sucked your family left you with your Aunt. More of a mother figure then anything. Yet she passed away a few years ago. You were a reck that day and that faithful day you met Gene. Your parents didn't answer your calls and they didn't care in the slightest to get you back. What great parents you had.
"I'm sure he'll show up (Name)-" "What if he doesn't!? What if a ghoul ate him up!? They just can't find his body!" You interrupted Aphmau with rage. Tears rushing down your face with a sad frown. In your world was anything from normal. In your world there are vicious creatures called "ghouls" that walk this earth. We now live in fear of these creatures. As they only have the thirst for human flesh. The scariest part is that these ghoul look just like us humans and blending in with society. Walking around in the city not knowing who's human and who's ghoul?
Aphmau shook a bit by your outburst since you been concealing it unlit now. It was hurting Aphmau as much as it was hurting you. She knew something that you didn't. She did it for your safety and she plans to keep it that way. "He'll show up soon. I promise." Aphmau wiped away your tears with her index finger. "How can you be so sure?" You sniffed. "Just trust me! Don't you trust your best friend?" You laughed a bit. Aphmau cheerfulness brought your mood up again. She was always good at doing that.
"Alright I trust you." You smiled your tears gone. At least for now. You heard a buzzing and a ringtone. It wasn't your ringtone so you knew it was Aphmau. "Oh shit! I forgot I was supposed to help Aaron with something!" Aphmau shouted. Finger tapping ran on her phone screen, before sending the message, and putting in phone in her pocket." Sorry (Name)! I have to go! Maybe we can study at the library another time?" Aphmau asked sheepishly. You smiled but shook your head. "It's fine but I'm still gonna study I don't want to fail. My grades are barely average." You started waving goodbye to her.
"A-alright! But don't get caught up studying late! Make sure to get home safe and call me!" You gave Aphmau a thumbs up as you were running off. You were gonna study for a bit but also just relax at the library. It helped you in your times without Gene. You check your phone once again. 5:09 pm. Zero missed calls and zero messages. You sighed deeply and continued your way to the library. Once you got there you hit the books. (Some literally actually and got in trouble by the librarian) You did studying for a bit before snoozing on your book.
You woke up to a nonstop tapping on your shoulder. You looked up to see the librarian. She was kind but came off rude to some people. You were theses some people. "I'm sorry but this isn't a place to sleep. We're closing if you can please leave." You frown at her as she walks away. You scoffed getting up with your books and bag. Walking out you saw it was almost pitch black. With the very dim streetlights. Barely anyone was out so you know it must be late. Quickly checking your phone it was 9:40 pm! What the heck!? You got worried as it's a very bad hour to be out right now. Especially for a young college student going home.
You quickly passed by any people or couple. All trying to mind their own business. You walked pass many of dark alleyways. "Meow~" You stopped in your tracks. "Meow~ meow~" Keep hearing the animal cry out in the alleyway. Deciding wether or not to see if it's hurt. Your kind heart gave in after standing there another minute hearing it cry out. Looking around you finally found the cat hiding behind a trash. "What are you doing there?" You say a little in a baby voice. "I could be asking you the same thing~?" Your eyes widen to its fullest. Already shaking in fear of what's to come.
You turned around facing a ghoul. It was a men no older then his late 30s. Long gone is that cat that you tried to help. Running out the alleyway once it out the chance. Leaving you and a blood thirsty ghoul ready to eat you up. Eyes glowing dark crimson just like blood. Your still shook in fear. You wanted to escape yet it's highly unlikely you'll make it out of alive. Tears slowly fall. "Awww don't need to cry.... I don't like crybabies." The ghoul took out his kagume the weapon that is part of them. Making them creature like and different from us.
It's more horrifying in person. Seeing an actually ghoul, it's crazy eyes, and kagume ready to rip away at your body. Instinctively start backing away ready to make a run for it. "Oh I don't think so!" He yelled grabbing onto your arm. Digging his long fingernails into your skin. "Let me go! Stop it! Someone help me!" You yelled helplessly. You knew you were going to die. More tears fall as you weren't going to tell Aphmau and the rest of your friends that you loved them and going to miss them. Especially Gene.... you haven't got to see him. No last dates, no late night fun, no cuddles, no kiss nor goodbye kiss, and no last I love you.
"AGH!" The ghouls suddenly let's go. Letting you fall back hitting the wall and your head. Making you see black dots. You saw the ghoul in pain and coughing up blood. It barely visible as you trying to make your head stop hurting. "Don't you dare lay your filthy fingers on her." You heard. You know that voice! Now your vision becoming a bit clear. You couldn't believe your eyes. You didn't want to believe them right now.
Gene with one of his beautiful right teal eye and the other left eye crimson red. His kagume which you didn't hate to admit that it was quite beautiful. Yet it was plunged through the ghoul chest. The one who just try to eat you. Gene takes his kagume out of the ghoul and it falls to the floor..dead.. You held in your scream and just looked up in shock at Gene. His seriousness when to soft and scared. Like he was more scared of himself. He was shaking violently as he fell to his knees in front of you. You flinched only little not leaving eye contact. Gene was hugging himself as he was trying to control himself.
"(N-Name)-" Gene grunted looking up at you. His ghoul eye showing. "I-I'm s-sorry.... I'm j-just hungry..." Gene grunted out in pain. Your heart was melting and breaking. "Gene... can't you just eat the other ghoul?" You asked softly not scared anymore. It was Gene your boyfriend who's been missing for three weeks. No one cared except you and a few friends. "N-No! That f-filthy freak try to h-hurt you..." Gene looked down controlling himself. You didn't like seeing your lover in pain. "Gene take a bite out of me." Without a second thought Gene drove into your shoulder.
Biting down gently not trying to hurt you. Honestly it made it so much more painful. Slowly and painfully taking a piece of your flesh. You hold in your grunts by biting down on your bottom lip. It only took a quick second for Gene to pull back. It helped him a lot. He looked down at the bite first. He curses under his breath. The bite would definitely leave a scar on your shoulder. He hates that it was a somewhat a deep bite. Afterwards he looks at you.
You looked and were very tired. Yet you smiled at Gene. His ghoul eye faded away turning back to its teal color. "Your so strong (Name)." Gene smooth voice was a blessing to you. He rested his hand on your cold cheek. You automatically nuzzled into his touch missing it so much. "I missed you so much." You cried happily. Gene smiled letting a tear fall. Your close to passing out because the impact and your sleepiness. Gene picked you up gently into his arms. "Rest up my love." You heard drifting off.
"Your an idiot! She can be in danger now!" You heard a familiar voice. "Don't you think I know that!? I can protect her now!? Stop yelling at me!?" Gene you thought. You risen from the bed you were sleeping on. You didn't know who's bed. Your left shoulder was in so much pain your grunted. "G-Gene..." You called out helplessly think maybe you were dreaming. "(Name) I'm right here don't worry." Gene rushed up to your bedside.
"Are you okay? You feeling better?" You asked him. "I should be asking you that. I'm so sorry this happened you." Gene said guilty. You pulled him in for a kiss which he gladly returns to you. "You don't know how much I miss your kisses." You let out after ending the kiss. "Same now you know why was gone for so long." Gene said shyly. "You could of came to me! I love you either way Gene." You spoke out. "I told you!" You turn to see Aphmau. "You knew!? Aphmau I was worried sick!" You shouted not particularly mad.
"Surprise.... I'm kinda one too. I found Gene when he first became a ghoul. It was because he got an organ from a ghoul. Reasons why he's half ghoul. He didn't want me to tell you or anyone." Aphmau explained. You still there shock becoming not surprised. It would explain why Aphmau always said she wasn't hungry when she was with you. "It makes sense now.... You guys should of told me." You whined just a bit. "Well we're ghouls (Name) we didn't know how you'll react." Gene told you and Aphmau nodded. "Gene your my boyfriend," you touched Gene's cheek softly. "Aphmau your my bestie. You guys being ghouls wouldn't change anything." You smiled.
"Thank you." Aphmau smiled before leaving you and Gene alone. Later explaining to you how her Maid-Cafe was also a place for ghouls. "Did I mentioned how much I missed you?" You smiled childish. Gene let out a laugh before dropping himself next to you. You snuggled into his chest as he gently wraps an arm around you. "I missed you too, don't worry I won't hide from you anymore." You heard and smiled into his chest. Your injury making you sleepy also the warmth of Gene. "I'm so happy." You told him. As both of you drifted to sleep together.
