"Here you go darling, don't forget your room key and schedule. You're dorm number 624." My mom spoke to me gently over the phone.
"Don't be so worried I'm only like an hour and a half away from home." I smiled, as I lugged my suitcases into the elevator.
My name is Jaeden Lieberher, I'm a freshman, in college and I can't wait for a fresh, new start. My rep in high school wasn't the worst but it certainly wasn't the best.
The only thing is I can't choose my dorm room. I prayed to the gods that I wouldn't be with somebody who doesn't give me the headspace I need.
Luckily for me my best friends Finn Wolfhard and Jack Grazer chose to go here too so maybe I will get paired with one of them.
I finally stepped out of the elevator and ran down the hallway, eager to find dorm 624. "Here we are!" I exclaimed to myself, and said my goodbyes to mom. I knocked on the door. I heard stumbling as someone approached the door.
"Hi, room service?" A lanky boy with curly hair energetically opened the door. He had light brown eyes and looked to be about my age.
"No, just your new roommate!" I smiled and allowed him to make way for me to come in. He already had his half of the room decked out with posters from video games and old 80's and early 2000's movies. Along with a barrel of records that appeared to all be mostly 60s music. I walked to my side and threw everything down onto the bed including myself. "I'm Jaeden, what's your name? And where are you from?" I asked eager to hopefully make a new friend.
"My name is Wyatt and i'm from i'm going to be late to class. Catch your later." He rushed out the door. It didn't seem like he had to same enthusiasm that I did about being here. I changed into something comfier and made myself a light snack. I pulled out my laptop and checked friendo which is basically just a website for making new friends. I think that there is just something so amusing about meeting new people and getting to know all their quirks and traits. I use to talk to this boy, his name was Jess or cybertext. I lied and told him my name is Wesley because I didn't trust a stranger knowing my first name. Of course I would be more comfortable telling him now that we're close friends. But what do I say? "Sorry i've been lying about something as simple as my first name because I was scared you were going to come kill me or something lol. Xx" So instead I just let it happen. We called each other by our screen names so it didn't even matter and Wesley is pretty cool name anyhow right? Anyway I really missed him he got super busy over the summer and we lost contact. I got so wrapped up in life my mind forget all the small simple details about him but I do remember the security he helped me to feel.
Cybertext wants to send you a message.
I eagerly clicked the notification. It's funny how something as simple as 7 words can make my heart skip.
Cybertext: Hey, sorry it's been a while. Life has been pretty crazy lately but things seem to be calming down now. What are you up to?
Wesley2003: No worries same here. I'm at a new school and I really miss my family but my best friends are here so it feels more like
home.Cybertext: Which friends? Jack and Finn? Aka the only ones you've been talking about for the past three years?
Wesley2003: Yep, Those are the ones! Life update: i'm not longer mad at Jack for knocking me off my skateboard.
Cybertext: Your life updates always keep me on my toes. Are you still having feelings for him?
Wesley2003: No, I've been to focused on school. Plus he has a girlfriend now. She's sort of rude and I can't say that I like her but she makes him happy and that's what matters. Chasing after a boy who isn't even gay is probably the definition of torture. How are you? What's the 411 on cybertext's life?
Cybertext: Still struggling with making friends. My best and only friend from back home, Jeremy, said it's because I come off as rude. I disagree I'm not rude just picky!
"Jaeden you piece of shit!" Wyatt came storming in the room. "You've been living with me for half of a day and there are already clothes on the ground!" He aggressively started throwing things in a hamper and straighten things on his desk.
"Look, i'm really sorry. I just got here and i'm really worn out."
"Me too and i'm still not treating OUR room like a pig pen..." he paused and sighed. "Are you eating my cereal?" He stared me down. "I'm going to the library." Wyatt turned right back around and slammed the door behind him.
It's only my first day and i'm already roomed with an asshole.
Wesley2003: I have psych class now talk to you later? Xx
Cybertext: Without a doubt. Talk to you later Wesley2003. Xx
I closed my laptop, still really agitated with my interaction with Wyatt. I "accidentally" spilt some of his cereal on his bed before leaving to go to class.
