She is dressed in white and stands behind two large oak doors, waiting to see him.
He is wearing a nice black tux and bounces on the balls of his feet on the other side of the oak doors, waiting to see her.
The smile that has been etched onto her face all day grows slightly - as do the nerves - when she feels her father take her left arm and loop it with his right one.
A smile, along with the nerves that had been present earlier this morning, make a reappearance when his six best friends - paired in their respective couples - make their way down the aisle.
And eventually it is her turn to walk. It’s her day, her moment. As soon as she and her father are in sight of everyone, she spots him. He’s standing there, looking just as handsome as ever, waiting on her. And she knows that it might be like one of those cliche Hallmark or Lifetime movies that her mother used to always force her to watch, but she swears that the only one she sees - out of everyone packed into the largest church in Sydney - is him. In just a matter of minutes, hell in just a matter of steps, she will be marrying the love of her life.
Finally they are face to face and as soon as her dad lets go of her arm, she’s reaching for his hand. He takes it and presses her fingertips softly to his lips (he had made sure to apply extra Chapstick this morning, making them extra soft and extra kissable). He can care less that he is in room surrounded by his family and friends or that the reverend is speaking to him. All he can think about is how gorgeous she is and how much he really wants to kiss her light pink lips and how freaking happy he is that she’s finally going to be his.
Sure she’s already his - considering that they have been dating for almost 4 years - but after today the two of them will be spending the rest of their lives together. After today she will officially be his wife. Wife. He’s been repeating that word over and over again in his head since he’d opened his eyes this morning. It’s a strange concept to him. He has never pegged himself as the type to ever actually settle down and start a life with someone; and if he had he certainly never imagined himself getting married to someone like her. And he doesn’t mean that in a bad way. Okay so the two of them are complete opposites and when he had first met her, he honestly didn’t think that they’d make it past the awkward encounter they had when he had tripped over her large backpack - him almost landing in her lap - as he walked through the airport terminal where they were both waiting to catch their respective flights. Yet, here he is about to become her husband.
She gently claws her fingernail into his palm, bringing him out of his trance. The reverend repeats his statement and tells him to proceed with his written vows. He drops her hands for a moment, fumbling with the suit pockets as he frantically searches for his piece of parchment that he’s written his vows on. One of his groomsmen places a hand on his shoulder and hands him the paper, giving him a thumbs up. He is shaking and blushing and he bites at the ring that is pierced into his lip. He meets her bright green eyes as he unfolds the paper and holds it out in front of him.
“I honestly can’t believe that you’re about to become my wife. I love you so much and I still haven’t got the slightest idea as to why you chose me to spend the rest of your life with. I don’t know what I would do if it was anyone but you standing here in front of me right now and all I can say is that I’m so happy that you had that heavy, God-forsaken backpack lying in the middle of the airport terminal that day. I love you from the bottom of my heart and I vow to always sing to you before you fall asleep and to dance with you when you’re grumpy. I vow to seize every opportunity to kiss you and to make you laugh. I vow to take care of you and to protect you from the harms of the world outside our front door. I promise to never forget that this is a once in a lifetime love.”
A sigh escapes from his mouth as she squeezes his hands before she releases one and dabs at her eyes that are now glistening with tears. She breathes a shaky laugh and takes the paper that her own vows were written on from her bridesmaid. She gives another breathy laugh - something she has always done when she is nervous - and begins her vows.
“I had never believed in love at first sight until I saw you. I’m going to be my cliche and cheesy self and confess that when you almost landed on me that day, my breathing hitched in my throat. And as our time spent together went on, I realized that you had this aroma around you that caused everyone you came in contact with to fall in love with you. You could’ve chosen anyone in the whole world to fall in love with and you chose me. I vow to always support you and go with you wherever life takes us. I vow to laugh at your lame jokes, even if they aren’t all that funny. I vow to help you love life, to always hold you with tenderness, and to have the patience that love demands. I vow to speak when words are needed and to share the silence when they’re not, and to live within the warmth of your heart - and always call it home.”
Once the vows have been given and the “I Do’s” have been said, the moment that he has been waiting for since she first walked through the door is about to happen. They grin at each other and after what feels like an eternity to both of them, the reverend finally says the five magic words: “You may kiss the bride.”
And boy, oh boy, does he kiss her. He reaches for her cheeks and brings her soft, strawberry tasting lips to his and smiles. He knows that he can’t make the kiss too deep because he’s aware of where he is, and he also knows how he is and how her kisses make him feel. He’ll just have to wait till later tonight, when it’s just the two of them and he’s not 102% positive that he can wait that long.
“Ladies and gentlemen of the congregation, I now present to you Mr and Mrs Luke Hemmings!”
||
“Mate, can you actually believe that you’re married?” Ashton, one of Luke’s groomsmen and best friends, asks. The smile hasn’t left Luke’s face since he had kissed his wife and he nods at Ashton. He is still a little in shock that he’s actually married now. He glances down at the strange piece of metal that wraps around the fourth finger on his left hand and chuckles before he looks back up at his 3 groomsmen/best friends/band mates and flings his arms around them, pulling them in for one of their cherished group hugs.
“Luke,” his wife says from behind him, “the photographer wants the eight of us to all take a couple more pictures.” Luke turns to his wife (God, he really loves that) and pulls her close to him. He swoops down and kisses one of her flushed cheeks. She gives a little squeal and looks over at her six best friends. The six of them line up - Ashton and Sutton, Calum and Annie, Michael and Phoebe - and wait for the newlyweds - Luke and Lena - to join them.
The photographer snaps some quick photos of the group of friends, all of them having years of experience of smiling for cameras. It’s when they’re done and the eight friends are chatting and laughing like they always do when they’re with each other, that the photographer sneakily lifts her camera and captures the perfect candid photo. It’s the one that makes the frame over all of their fireplace mantels, joining countless others of the eight of them. It is the one that truly captures their eight individual personalities, but also displays them as one character. It’s the one that shows them ready to take on whatever the world throws their way, although not alone but together.

also, i know that half of the vows are from the movie "The Vow" so i do not own those.
outros (or intros) were never my forte, but i'm going to attempt to be funny and leave you all with a lame joke that my friend always tells me..
