The one where Luke and Lena discover that they both share the same fear and Lena’s family hears about the pregnancy.

||

Lena is now 16 weeks pregnant and she can’t be happier. She has already had one doctors appointment, it was on the Monday after the barbeque at hers and Luke’s home. Her husband had informed her about an hour before her appointment that he was called in for an emergency writing session at the studio; it wasn’t entirely false though, but the majority of the time was spent with Luke wallowing in his fears and contemplating on telling his friends these worries. Instead, Sutton willingly agreed to accompany her best friend to her sonogram, seeing as she had experience in this already. At 11 weeks, Lena headed back to the doctors to run a two-part test to see if the baby was at risk for any birth defects or heart problems. The ob-gyn proudly announced that Jelly Bean was looking wonderful and was as healthy as could be. Luke wasn’t there to hear that.

On this particular evening, Luke and Lena are having a calm night at home. Luke had returned from the studio a few hours earlier, proudly announcing that the band had written three more songs and were set to start recording on the album over the next few weeks. Lena is ecstatic for him as she hugs and kisses him hard. Currently they are sat on the couch in the family room of their home, snuggled into one another as they share little kisses here and there. A Harry Potter movie is playing on the screen, providing the only light throughout the majority of the house. Their home fits them well, Lena decides. It’s the perfect size for the time being, not too small so that they’re scouring for space, but also not large to where they don’t have enough stuff to fill it up. The thought of tiny feet running through the house, with Sunny’s paws following behind, makes Lena smile. She can’t wait.

“Sweetheart,” she says, capturing Luke’s attention away from the TV, “don’t forget that I have another doctors appointment in two weeks. I’d really like for you to be there for this one.” Luke’s eyes turn back to watching Ron and Hermione bicker over whose pet is better. “Len, you know that we have to get this album recorded…” He trails off, not sure of what else he can say as an excuse.

Lena sits up, Luke’s arm falling from around her shoulder in the process. “I know that, Luke, but I’ve had two appointments already and you’ve somehow managed to weasel your way out of going to either one. The check up takes no longer than 25 minutes, 35 minutes at the latest.” She’s really starting to get fed up with his lame excuses. He is in this journey just as much as she is and his attitude towards all of it is pissing her off - plus her off-the-wall hormones aren’t helping. “This is the most crucial and exciting ultrasound of the whole pregnancy!” She claims, trying to lighten his spirits a little. “If the baby is turned the right way, they’ll be able to determine the sex. I want to share that experience together.”

Luke ignores her last statement, his eyes still focusing on the movie. “Twenty-five minutes, Lena? I don’t know, I could record some really good vocals and harmonies in that amount of time.” Lena looks at her husband, ready to explode. She grabs the remote and the plasma screen goes black. “Hey! That was a good part!” Luke whines.

“What the fuck is your problem?” Lena spits. Luke blinks, taken aback by his wife’s language. He’s heard Lena cuss before - plenty of times actually, in the bedroom, during a surfing competition, when she’s angry - but for some reason he’s shocked that she has chosen now to do so. As far as he’s concerned he has done nothing wrong. “You’ve become such an asshole lately. It’s like - it’s like,” Lena struggles for the right word, her anger consuming her mind.

“It’s like what?” Luke questions, his own anger boiling inside of him.

“It’s like you don’t even want this baby!” Lena howls as she shoots up from her seat. “You seem to want nothing to do with this! You never want to go to the doctor with me or discuss names or look at furniture or clothes, you’re always “too busy” with your damn band!” She accuses, pointing her finger at him.
