They were bored and it was warm. Exploring the neighbourhood was the first that jumped to their tedious, little minds. So there they were, walking down a deserted, dead street; approaching a beautiful house. A house which was ready for guests, a house which was armed with secrets, a house which was hungry for more.
Charlotte began to egg Dani on, eager to get started. She had always been a popular girl, ensnaring boys in her platinum curls. But Dani was a different kind of boy, he was exactly like Charlotte. Arrogant, aristocratic and a aster of the game. Dani was interested in Charlotte, but he wanted her to fall into his hand first. In the background Zoe whined, tired of Charlottes flirting. Zoe wasn't one for compassion, she was stone cold. She didn't even care for friends. The only reason Zoe was there was to explore and have some fun. Thinking about it there was actually one thing she cared for- adventure.
Johnny was the only one who was completely silent that day.Dani ran up the driveway and threw himself at the door (he could of taken down an elephant), but the door opened smoothly as if it had been unlocked and not forcefully smashed through, All four pre-teens sauntered in. Looking down the dank, bland, empty hallway, they sighed-exasperated. Although the houses exterior was incredibly beautiful, the interior was boring and bleak. It was as if the house had drank bleach it's organs rotten and corrosive.
The children stared down the hall and something stared back. Boring into the children, analysing their thoughts was a door. A door that stood tall and alone. Wooden with dark stains, the door was clouded with an invitation inviting them to come closer. So they did.As they got closer the more they saw. The lines that seemed to be part of the door was indeed part of the door, but they shouldn't of been. Seeking an answer from this door, Charlotte squinted at the marks. They were too thin. They were too random. They were too eerie. It dawned upon Charlotte that these marks were not part of decoration, they were talon marks, someone has clawed against this door. Charlotte backed away and mumbled a scared, pathetic suggestion of going home, the others of course laughed at her, then told her to grow up. Drop dead centre of this most peculiar door, a key hole lay waiting. However there was a thick black paste oozing out of it extremely impatiently. A stench of rotten flesh and rich blood was attached to the paste; it smothered the coal opening. Bothered by this finding, the children turned round in efforts of finding a new wonder.
Facing Johnny was another door. Thus door was delightfully normal, a regular, old door. Nothing to be scared of. Dani's hand reached out, hungry to now more, praising the handle he pulled. Then something stopped Johnny's pulling, something was blocking the door, so he yawned it harder. Something snapped on the floor. Like a ribcage shattering. Darkness. Darkness was their only greeting. Until a torch was pulled out of a pocket and the cupboards secrets were revealed. Crouching at the back of some boxes was a cot. If you could call it a cot anyway. You see, this 'cot' was corroded, burnt and shrouded a five month foetus. One white, pristine and bright was now a broken and mouldy. And in the midst of this 'cot' was a a small, shrivelled teddy bear with an ear half eaten, one eye and burnt fur. Recoiling in shock and fear Johnny thought about his own childhood in the orphanage. He was adopted a year ago and since then he had been trying to forget all the horrible memories, but this find brought then all back. His mind combusted with terrifying thoughts and memories. The walls were closing in on hi, the sounds got louder. Scrunching his eyes up with hands masking his ears, he fought to breathe. 1 breathe in and 1 breathe out. 1... 2... 3... 4... 5... 6...
In front of the cot were several boxes; shoe boxes, big boxes and metal boxes. Dani eagerly robbed at one of them, it was a cold metallic box reflection Dani's distinguishable face. Curiosity took hold and he peered into the box. Toys. Lots and lots of toys was all he saw. "Bor-ring"! However as he delved further into the box, the stranger the toys got, Near the bottom of the box he discovered what seemed to be a two headed baby- but must of been a two headed doll Dani reassured himself. Then the box reduced a thin, dainty, sharp she of skeletal wings. Finally he saw a ball, he threw it up and as it came spiralling down, a slave of gravity, the ball turned as if it was giving Dani a show. Dani grinned at his new plaything and the plaything grinned back! It literally grinned back, a permanent smile was etched upon the face. As Dani's draw dropped open, his eyes popped and the furry face almost moved as to echo the 'woof' it once barked. Bile rose up his also pages and out it came, all over the capitulum. Dropping the dogs head in shock he cried out: "Let's go home. Now!" They had all had enough, they wanted to go home.
They turned around. Walked forward. Then stopped. Their eyes drifted up. Pink, moist and skinless, a cat swung from a rope. A tag wrapped around its Eco inscribed with 'Please return to Zoe'. Zoe let out a banshee shriek capable of waking the dead up if they weren't already awake.
All four were petrified, they couldn't cope with anything more. Their bodies spoke for themselves. Heart pumping, blood chilling, breaths unsynchronised. They sprinted out the house and run down the street, away from the critically beautiful house.Such a shame, they didn't get to see our second floor.
