chapter seven - deal?

I stumbled into the bathroom, still groggy from my lack of sleep last night. I didn't think I was going to be able to get through classes; I would probably doze off during class.

Showering quickly and changing into my uniform, I glanced at the clock and saw that I still had twenty minutes to spare, so I could actually sit down and have a proper breakfast.

I sat down at the kitchen island with a bottle of milk and a box of cereal. Munching happily on my treat, I didn't notice the scantily clad girl come in behind me.

"Shit, where's the water? My head aches so much."

I froze in shock. After a few moments, I turned around to see a girl dressed in a large shirt I knew all too well, since I had worn it myself many times.

"Hey," she started awkwardly. "Do you know where I could get water?"

"Uhm, the water dispenser is in the living room." I managed an embarrassed smile.

"So, who are you, girlie?" she said, once she had drank the whole glass of water with a few aspirin tablets.

I should be asking you that.

"I'm the owner of this house."  I said smugly.

"Really? That's strange, Dan told me that he lived here alone."

I managed a small chuckle and shook my head, even though my heart was breaking bit by bit.

"Well, he doesn't."

"So, are you guys serious?" I continued.

I tried my best to guard my eyes so that my true emotions wouldn't be revealed.

"I think so," she gushed. Then she put on a straight face again. "Not to be rude, but I'm not sure why I'm telling you this."

"Ahaha, it's ok, I'm his best friend, I know everything about him anyway."

Her eyes narrowed and her face twisted into a evil smirk.

"Why do you care if Dan and I are serious anyways? Shouldn't you be happy for him?"

"What do you mean?" I chuckled nervously. "I am happy for him."

I was afraid of how well she could read my emotions.

She made a tsk sound. "Not so fast, girlie. It's pretty obvious from the way you react to me talking about our relationship. I'm telling you now, don't you dare come between him and I."

She looked me up and down with a disapproving expression.

"Though," she laughed, "I'm not sure why he would go for you anyway. Look at you, he's way out of your league."

Tears blurred my vision but I tried my best to hold them back.

"That may be your opinion, but it's not the truth," I choked out.

I turned away and speed walked out of the apartment, her laughs echoing behind me.

Reaching school, I set out to find the first person that came to mind.
