⠀⠀▸ Why did this have to happen to me...?

┅⠀

It had been raining all night when a loud crack of thunder shook the whole house, sending me falling out of my bed and onto the floor. The rain continued to fall down heavily on the roof above, and my body refused to go back to sleep (or get up, for that matter. It's been 10 minutes and I still haven't budged from the bedroom floor). I just couldn't shake the cold feeling from the dream I had before I was startled out of bed.

I dreamt about my past home.

You see, I used to live on the planet Alpar Nok. I was very young then, so I can't exactly say I remember it all, but I do remember the fun I had. My parents would take me to visit the local elephants (yes, I said elephants! They actually originated from my home planet. During some ancient era, Alpar Nok gave elephants to Terra Firma as a gift. So now you know why they are my favorite animals!) and I would play all day with them, specially with Chordata. She is my favorite.

I was also told that I formed a special Alparian bond, called a drang, with my friends Willy, Emma, Dana, and Joe. We were inseparable... But then, of course, I moved.

And then First Strike came.

As I have said before, my parents and friends are deceased. Why? I don't like talking about it, but I guess I'll explain anyway.

When the Alparians discovered Earth, they knew they had to protect the humans. Humans were in many ways like us, we even believe we might have originated from the same ancestor. Unfortunately, other alien species- the "outer ones", we like to call them -had discovered Terra Firma as well and were planning on colonizing and taking it over.

Not good for any of us.

So, my parents were sent to protect Earth and it's inhabitants. And I guess... They were so busy looking after the humans, that they didn't look after themselves. I was three years old when my parents were murdered, and I can still remember everything from that unspeakably horrifying night.

They were killed by one of the most evil alien creatures ever to have set foot on earth: The Prayer. He came to our house searching for The List, which is a nifty devise that holds all the information on every outlaw alien on Terra Firma. This guy is Number 1 on that thing, and if that doesn't convince you that The Prayer is trouble and death all wrapped up in one, I don't know what will.

I ended up escaping from my home along with The List before he could murder me as well. I sat there in the grass watching my home burn to the ground, knowing I had to carry on my parents job. And I did.

Years later, Number 6- Ergent Seth, a zombie-horse-faced freak -had destroyed Alpar Nok and killed many Alparians along with it in the First Strike. My friends were in the Academy when it was bombed... No one could find their bodies, either.

And now I'm here, laying on the uncomfortable carpet of my makeshift home. Sure, I can create my family and friends at will, but it hurts to know all that has happened to them. All the pain they went through... It's not fair.

I clinched my fists and finally stood. One hand and knee at a time, I crawled in bed then lazily rolled myself onto my back. Sighing, I stared up at the plain white ceiling, feeling my heart ache as all the memories rushed through my head once again. I felt a few hot tears softly slide down the sides of my face, but I didn't bother to wipe them away.

It's moments like this when I realize how alone I actually am. I subconsciously zoomed out to see the house, dark and empty. A few pizza boxes scattered around the kitchen counters, a fashion magazine left on the couch, a stack of text books near the front door... And it's all mine. Just mine. All these years I have been here, it's been only me. If you could take away my powers and see the big picture, I was simply a lonely boy. Homeless and abandoned.

I closed my eyes and tried to forget. Tried to forget the big picture. As I did, the rain still fell softly onto the earth below, as if the sky was crying with me.
