Day 1
Evan POV:
Today started off as usual, I had taken off with Sparks in search of food while the rest of the gang caught some sleep.
We ran into a few crawlers, no biggie they were at a good distance so Sparks sniped them all down.
We waited and watched to make sure none of them were overlooked, after scoping out the area I gave the signal to keep moving.
We were trying to get to a supermarket a couple miles down but it seemed so much farther as we kept walking.
I knew we couldn't just turn around though, we were almost out of food and other necessities, so there was no turning back until we came up on something.
I felt like Sparks was getting tired, he had to carry a .50 caliber sniper rifle for 17 blocks and that shit did not look light.
"Hold up bro" I said as we jumped over a barricade. "What's good, E?' was his response looking around to see if we were in danger.
I exhaled "chill man, I just need to rest my legs, and I know you tired of carrying that big shit."
He laughed and took a seat on the barricade, "Shit I know that's right."
We stayed vigilant as we took our breather, you never know when these motherfuckers might pop up. I checked my .38 and counted my spare bullets, checked my .40 too and realized I ain't have one in the chamber.
I shook my head "lacking." I guess Sparks peeped why i said it and started laughing. "You gone get yourself killed out chea boss man."
I sucked my teeth and cocked my shit back , "Got me fucked up!" He double checked his gun and nodded at me, I holstered my .40 and said "we out then."
As we walked we tried not to make noise and swiftly get closer to the building. Considering we're short three guys, I ain't want no extra attention.
We were finally in reading distance of the sign on the store, "Presidente" was what we said simultaneously after looking at the sign with a few letters missing.
"I really don't like this shit mayne" is what Sparks said loading his Magnum, but we both knew it was either run up in this shit or starve.
I took point as we walked through the double doors, the place seemed pretty quiet.
Ran through but quiet, I had a nice grip on my .38 and a flashlight in my left hand, I checked each side them straight ahead to ensure it wasn't some sort of ambush.
Once the coast was clear, I advanced with Sparks not too far behind.
We used the signs above us to navigate our way around the store, from the pharmacy, to the clothes, to the canned goods, and frozen section.
No one could know how long this store hadn't been visited, but it looked to me like no one had been here in a while.
We had a shopping cart and it was damn near filled to he brim with stuff, the frozen stuff wasn't really frozen anymore so we stacked that shit on top.
Luckily money had lost it's value cause we are broke asf bihh. Shit not like anyone was gonna stop us anyway.
We made our way back to the entrance, but I could not help but feel like we weren't alone.
I'd look up at the mirrors in the store to be discreet, but I ain't see no one peeking.
We couldn't hear any other footsteps, or that wailing sound the crawlers made when chasing you.
It kind of threw me but we had wasted enough time in the store. "You good E.J?" I shook my head "Huh?"
Sparks threw the rifle over his shoulder and held onto the strap it was attached to as we kept walking, "You seem a little thrown." He wasn't the brightest bulb but I gotta say this nigga can peep body language.
I continued to push the cart, scanning the area around us "yeah man I'm good like great."
He gave me a look, but left it like that. We really didn't say much, just kept it moving as we exited the store.
We got out to the parking lot and I told him to make sure we were alone. I watched his six as he scanned the area in front of us, "Looks like we're good mayne."
And with that, we were off towards our campsite. We got back a lot faster than when we left, guess the lack of crawlers was to blame for that though.
Richard was on guard so he noticed us first, I clapped him up "What's poppin Rich?" He smiled, "Ain't shit, E."
I left the cart near him and made my way towards my sleeping bag, "y'all ain't see no action?"
He shook his head and started to attack the cart, I yawned and laid on my mat. Keep in mind that's for the whole crew Richie."
He muttered some inaudible shit and pushed the cart towards the rest of our supplies.
I ain't have the energy needed to check this nigga, so I just rolled over and dosed off. I awoke in a sweat, I'd been having the same nightmare for the past few nights.
One where I was being chased by this bear, but not just any ordinary bear.
This motherfucker was HUGE! I would try to kill it in a few dreams but bullets don't phase this shit.
He was too big to fight off and running wasn't really my strong suit, he'd usually get me but today I woke up before he could.
"Evan!!" I could feel someone touching me, wasn't anything gentle either.
"Evan, wake the fuck up!" I sat up quickly and me and Jess bumped heads. "Ouch bro!"
I was a little dazed at first but I could hear her voice alot clearer now. "Damn Jessie, what happened?!"
She was rubbing her chin as she said "We have to move it's day break." Fuck bro what I'd do for ten more minutes.
I wiped the side of my mouth and got the dried up crud out of my eyes, "Everybody on point?!"
She moved some loose hair behind her ear, "Mhm." The sun was hitting her at an angle, it actually complimented her honey eyes.
I rarely got a chance to sit back and I look at Jess, considering she was the only girl.
It was hard living in our current conditions, but Jessie never complained. She was tough like that though, she had that never surrender and never back down persona going on.
"Is all the stuff packed?"
She rolled her eyes and folded her arms across her chest, "Again yes, we're waiting on you."I got up on my knees and holstered my weapons, "Okay then guess we good to go."
How'd you guy like this chapter? I know it might be a little short but it's only the beginning there's plenty more to come. Feel free to like, comment and share.
