today a family friend sent
a t-shirt that said u.s. army on it
because he's in military school
training to hold his breath
for twenty minutes
fire the guns of a submarine
into a ship that holds boys
that have the same heart as his
but will sink to the bottom to become
a home for sharks and anemone
to drop shells of energy over
buildings that house children and dogs
to keep his own children and dogs safe
to boil his own skin over a bonfire of
blood and fire and death and paperwork
to follow the orders of a person who
is following the orders of a person who
is following the orders of a person who
is following the orders of a song of history
that is six million years of insanity
that has tried to be quelled but
surges onward like a march
of young children playing at war
