Aunt Rebecca picked Allison and me up and talked us up about how we should get our drivers licenses together. I nod politely, mainly because Aunt Rebecca scares me, and answer questions with short answers. After Aunt Rebecca drops me off at home, I walk down the stone path and reach into my pocket for the key. I unlock the door and walk in, immediately hearing a meowing from Duke. I close the door and walk over to the recline chair, the one piece of furniture that he has chosen what was his.
"Hello, Camille. How was school today? Did you make any new friends?" Duke's eyes say, I scratch the top of his head.
He stretches and stands up, rubbing on me. I pick him up and walk upstairs to my room. When I get up to my room, I set Duke on my bed and my backpack on my desk chair. I collapse on my bed and bury my face into my pillow, Duke purrs in my ear and rubs his head on my arm. I sit up and remember what Mom had told me this morning about to call her after school. I stand and walk down the stairs, Duke hot on my heels, and grab the home phone by the lamp in the living room. Mom left a sticky note beside the phone with a number for me to call. I dial the number and put the phone to my ear, petting Duke's fur. Mom answers on the second ring.
           "Hello?" She sounds tired.
           "Mom?" I say
"Oh, hi sweetie. How was school today?" She says, "Make any new friends?"
           "Yeah, a few." I say
"Good, what do you want to eat tonight? I have a hunger for cheeseburgers from Hugo's." She says
"That's fine, when are you going to be home?" I say
"Around eight," She says "I'll bring you a cheeseburger okay? Maybe we can talk about your first day of school."
"Okay Mom," I sigh "I think I may go to the library around the corner so I can finish my homework."
"Oh, okay. Don't be long, I don't want you staying home after dark." She says
            "Okay, bye mom." I say
"Okay, I love you sweetie." I hang up, feeling guilty for not saying it back to her like I used to.
I walk up the stairs and grab my backpack, saying fair well to Duke as I walk out of the house and onto the library.
