Hermione found her way to potions class; Ron was there as well, of course. Though now she just yearned for him to like her. It was odd, he seemed to become completely annoyed with her every time she opened her mouth, so she did her best to stay quiet. Hermione was determined to be friends with Ron Weasley.
The brunette had her nose in her notebook as she wrote down repeatedly the way to brew a cure for boils when she saw Professor Snape hit the back of Ron and Harry's heads from speaking out of turn. Hermione smirked, knowing how much Harry and Ron loathed Professor Snape.
Now, Professor Snape was not known for being a shining example of an understanding and empathetic person. He had a sort of hatred that he carried around him. And when he was in the specific presence of Harry Potter he tended to try to make his life as miserable as possible. However, he clearly did know everything about his subject inside and out and was a truly wonderful potions master.
The two boys thought that the teacher was out to get Harry. "I hear that Severus has been out for the Defense Against Dark Arts teaching position for years, don't you think that's a tad shady? Why wouldn't Dumbledore give it to someone that capable who wants it that bad? I hear that he was a huge ally of You-know-Who!"
That immediately caught Hermione's attention, "So you believe... that a teacher... at Hogwarts... was or is a Death Eater?" Hermione simply doubted that Professor Dumbledore would hire a dark wizard. Yes, he is not necessarily enjoyable to be around. But he isn'ta bad person. "Do you understand how silly you sound?"
"I suppose." Harry sighed and cleaned his glasses, staring down into them, "But Snape has no reason to dislike me-"
Hermione cut him off, "You're late and ill-prepared for class." she started to list off plenty of things Harry has done to set off Snape, "You also disrespect him which obviously-"
"Okay okay!" Ron threw his hands up. Professor Snape did a quick one-eighty and stared daggers into Ron. Ron Wesley hid half of his face and continued the conversation with a whisper, "Bloody Hell, Hermione, we get it. But he still does plenty of over reacting." Hermione knew that her chances with being friends with Ron were dwindling into the single digits.
Harry furrowed his eyebrows in deep thought. "I think we should talk to someone who knows Snape personally." He decided.
"And who would that be?" Hermione said, straightening her posture.
"Hagrid." Harry, said, smiling, rather proud that he knew someone who was on the inside loop of the happenings at Hogwarts and stand up to leave. That's when Snape came and pushed Harry back into his seat. "Going somewhere?" The Professor spat out.
Harry rolled his eyes and allowed himself to be forced back into his seat.
"Just because you're a celebrity, this does not allow you to get special privileges mister... Potter." Snape hissed, seemingly barely moving his mouth.
Harry allowed himself to be pushed back into his desk, albeit reluctantly, "I suppose that we will go after class." The boy who lived, went back to struggling to write with a quill.
Hermione glanced over to the cauldron behind her where she found Neville trying to add porcupine quills to his potion while it was still on the fire. She quickly grabbed his fist full of quills to stop him from adding them in. "Are you mental, Neville Longbottom? If you add those quills in the potion the way you are now you will melt your cauldron and create a horrid odor!"
