~chapter 4~

-Six years Later-

"Happy Birthday, sweetie." Jay whispers and nuzzles his nose into the crook of my neck.

"Thanks, babe." I smile.

"I have something for you." Jay says and jumps up from the couch. He rushes out the door and goes to his car.

Jay comes back in, carrying a small bag.

"Close your eyes." He says.

I sigh and reluctantly close my eyes. I hear rustling from the bag.

"Open." Jay whispers.

I open my eyes and see Jay standing before me on the couch.

Jay shifts down to one knee.

"Nia, I know we've been dating for only six months, but I love you. I do with all my heart. I want to spend the rest of my life with you. I know you're only seventeen and I'm nineteen, but two years isn't a big difference. Ive been waiting for this day, your seventeenth birthday, and today is that day. Honey, will you marry me?" Jay pulls open a small black felt box. Inside is a silver, sapphire ring. A gorgeous blue sapphire is attached to a silver ring that looks just my size.

"Yes!" I scream and leap into Jay's arms. Jay catches me and starts kissing me all over my face. He begins carrying me bridal style to my bedroom. He pushes open the door and carries me to my bed. He drops me and I bounce up and down from the force.

"What are you doing?" I ask when Jay climbs into bed with me.

"You know." He says and kisses me and then starts grabbing the hem of my shirt.

My mouth opens and closes like a fish. I just lay there, but then I see a flashback.

&Dad picks me up and carries me over to the couch. He throws me on the couch and tries kissing me. I push his face away so he goes for my shirt, grabbing the hem of it and trying to rip it off.&

Jay is beginning to lift the shirt above my stomach. I push my shirt back down.

"Jay, no, stop." I say. Jay stops kissing my neck and looks me in the eye.

"You're engaged to me. So you belong to me." He says.

"Jay, no! Please stop!" I plead and shove Jay's lips away from me.

"You do what I want. We are engaged. Now love me!"

"Jay, if your marrying me and pressuring me for sex than take your ring to someone else!" I scream and slide the ring off my finger. I throw it on the ground.

"No!" Jay screams and leaps on me. I lash out at him. I'm biting and clawing.

"Get off me!" I yell. Jay grips my hands and pushes them against the bed. He puts each of his legs on either side of my stomach. He moves my hands together and above my head.

"No!" I yelp when Jay grabs my shirt and literally rips it off.

"Derek!" I scream for help. I hear footsteps and then a pounding on the locked door. The doorknob jiggles and then the wood splinters as Derek repeatedly shoves his shoulder against it. He falls through the cracked door as Jay grabs my pants.

"You creep!" Derek grabs Jay's shoulders and yanks him off of me. I rub my now-free wrists.

I see Derek punch Jay over and over. Something is comforting about the violent thud of Derek's fists against Jay's body. I smile. It's so nice to see someone else be abused.

Six years ago, after I threw out Mrs. Blake, me and dad agreed that he quits the alcohol and drugs. He gets a real job, instead of selling drugs on corners and he has to become a real dad. A real dad means, coming home to your kids at reasonable hours, not swearing or abusing them, telling them you love them and tucking them into bed. Sadly, I had to explain what a real dad means. Derek now comes out of his room and prefers to sit on the couch by my dad and watch football games together. Chrissa comes out of the shadows and Haley runs to dad every time he comes home.

I smile.

"What the hell are you doing?" Derek looks at me. The punching noise stopped. I lean over the edge of my bed to find Jay's body laying on the floor. He's still breathing.

"Give me paper. Now!" I snap at Derek. He slowly steps out of the room and into his, before returning with a stack of paper. I grab a t-shirt from my dresser and put it on to replace my ripped off one. Derek gives me a suspicious look before dropping the paper in my arms.

"Pen?" I ask.

Derek returns a couple of seconds later with a pen.

I grab the pen and start writing words down on the paper:

'Jay,

We are through. Don't come back to this house ever again. I hate you. Your ring is underneath this paper. Use it on someone who will let you get in their pants. Don't even try coming near me and don't think about us being friends. Good bye, and don't try contacting me.

~Your Ex and Ex-Fiancé'

I grab the ring that I threw on the floor and place it by Jay's head. I drop the note on top of the ring, like the note said. I slip Jay's phone out of his pocket and go into his contacts.

I search my name.

Nia💋💞💍

I click delete.

Now he will never be able to contact me again.

I put his phone back in his pocket.

"Derek, help me." I say and grabs both of Jay's arms. Derek grabs Jay's legs. We carry his unconscious body down the stairs and to the door. We throw his body at the same exact spot I threw Mrs. Blake that one night.

Jay's body hits the concrete. I smile and lock the door before clapping mine and Derek's hands together.

"Well done!"
