Baekhyun
After school later that week, I waited outside with Luhan for Sehun, Kai, and Xiumin.
"We could go to the park and play soccer. We haven't done in a while," Luhan said, continuing to suggest ideas on what to do since it was a Friday.
"You guys make the decision. I just have to be home by dinnertime," I said.
"You always say that Baekhyun," he whined. "You should learn to be more assertive."
"I'll get on that right away, sir," I said sarcastically, earning a grin and a chuckle from him.
Sehun, Kai, and Xiumin walked out of the school a few minutes later, Xiumin ahead and the other two behind him, clearly arguing about something.
"They have been arguing about what to do since we left last period," he said, sounding annoyed and looking back at them. "I consider myself lucky that I have to work tonight."
"Wait, does that mean you can't hang out?" Luhan said in a whiny voice, earning a nod from him. "But you promised you'd hang out with us this weekend."
"I know and it's only Friday. I promise I'll take you all bowling tomorrow," he said.
"Did someone say bowling?" Kai said, suddenly appearing behind him. "Don't tease me with a cheap, fun time."
"Calm down, we're not going today," he said, pushing Kai back a little by poking his forehead. "I have to work today."
"Ugh, why do you have to so responsible, hyung?" Kai whined.
"One of us has to," Xiumin replied with a chuckle. "I'll meet you guys at the park tomorrow and take you bowling. I need to get going now, though. I want to try and finish my homework before my shift starts."
"Promise?" Kai yelled after him as he began to walk away. He just turned around put his thumb up as a yes. This made Kai smile. "So, what are we going to do?" he asked turning to us.
"Soccer?" Luhan suggested again.
"No way!" Sehun said hitting Luhan's shoulder. "You'll just end up winning anyway since you're on the soccer team."
"Winning sounds fun to me." Luhan shrugged and laughed as Sehun shoved him gently.
"We don't we go get food and just hang out at the park," I suggested. "We don't have to be doing something to enjoy each other's company. It's better than going home and doing homework anyway."
Kai smiled smugly. "You had me at food," he said and I laughed.
Then, we all started walking in the direction of the nearest convenience store, we each picked up a few snacks before heading to the park. We sat down at one of the tables and ate, talking amongst ourselves. Kai offered to take our trash over to the bin, but he stopped in his tracks on his way back to the table.
"Asshole alert," he said, motioning to the group of guys headed straight for us. He groaned, rolled his eyes, and joined us at the table. Curious, I turned around saw Lay, Chen, Tao, Suho, and Chanyeol walking towards us. I sighed and turned back around. We didn't exactly have any beef with them (at least that I knew of), but they always made an effort to pick on us if they ever saw us around town, which thankfully wasn't a lot. I personally had nothing against them, so I mostly stayed out of whatever they had.
"Looks like you guys had the same idea as us," Chen said as he got closer to us. "Which is weird considering how unintelligent most of you are."
"Compared to who? You guys who come to the poor part of town exclusively to flaunt your parents' wealth? I don't know if I'd call that intelligent behavior as much as I'd call it narcissistic behavior," Kai shot back.
Chen scoffed, the sound coming out as more of a chuckle. "You've got some humor, darky. I almost laughed," he replied. I could see Kai's jaw tighten as he rolled his eyes.
"Is there a reason you're here or do you exist just to piss me off?" he said.
"Well, we were gonna play a quick game of basketball, but I guess we won't anymore. You put us in a bad mood," Chen responded, letting out a small, annoyed sigh.
"Oh, too bad," Kai said in a fake sympathetic voice. "Guess it's time to go then. Maybe we'll be lucky enough to see each other again."
"Let's not get our hopes up," Chen said, his amused smirk now fading into a full frown.
Just then, Taemin unexpectedly showed up. "What hopes?" he said out of what seemed like genuine curiosity to me, but apparently, it came off as threatening to them. Their faces instantly hardened in forced defeat.
"Nothing. We were just leaving," Tao said suddenly, placing his hands on Chen's shoulders in order to get him to turn around.
"You got lucky this time, asshole. But you won't always be," he said in a threatening tone before walking away. Kai huffed and shook his head, flipping him off as they walked away.
"What was that all about?" Taemin asked as he sat down with us.
"Nothing. Nothing at all," Kai said, still clearly bothered by the interaction. Taemin was usually the one who cooled down our heated interactions with them. His dad was probably richer and more influential than all of their families combined, which was the only reason they left us alone the moment he showed up.
"Are they still bothering you? If they are, just tell me. I can end their lives with one text if I want to," Taemin said, earning a chuckle from me and Luhan.
"No, that would just piss them off even more. Even though, I'm not sure why they are pissed in the first place," Kai said, resting his arms on the table as he glanced back at the direction they walked.
"'Cause their egos are even bigger than their parents' bank accounts," he said, getting a laugh from us again. "Don't worry about them. They're the types to peak in high school and then drop off. They'll be out of your lives before you know it."
We all glanced back. "I hope so," Kai said.
