It was Sirius Blacks' 11th birthday and he was torn between excitement and fear. He knew that when he turned 11, he would be expected to hold up the ideals of the Black Heir. Because that's who he was. He wasn't Sirius, a ten year old who enjoyed playing and acting like a ten year old should, he was Sirius Orion Black III. The sole inheriter of the Black fortune. Born into a family of Slytherins and worshippers of the Dark Arts. But when he turned 11 he would be able to go to Hogwarts and make new friends and maybe, just maybe, be treated like a child should.
"Sirius!" His mother shrieked.
Walburga Black was a tall woman who at nearly 6 foot towered over her son. Sirius ran to see what she wanted. He knew that if he made her wait she would punish him.
"I believe it is your birthday today Sirius." She stated, looking at her fingernails as though this wasn't a conversation she wanted to have.
"Yes Mother" Sirius replied, a bit hesitantly as he wasn't sure what the correct response was. It seemed to work though as Walburga said
"your Hogwarts letter has arrived." Sirius ran down to the kitchen and as his mother had said there was the owl with his Hogwarts letter. He tore open the letter and read through it, not noticing that his entire family were watching him from the doorway.
"Sirius" his father said. Orion was a tall broad man at 6.5 feet and as he made his way over to his heir the boy flinched.
"Yes f-father" Sirius stuttered. He hated stuttering.
"Don't stutter boy!" his father roared.
"Sorry sir" Sirius replied with wide eyes.
"Me and your mother will take both you and Regulus to Diagon Ally with your cousins tomorrow. Now go to your rooms. Both of you. " Orion said.
Sirius ran up to his room and flopped onto his bed. He didn't want to see his cousins. t
They were more worshippers of the dark arts. And Slytherins.
'Andromeda's alright though' Sirius thought. With the happy thought that he would be seeing Andromeda tomorrow in his head, he drifted off to sleep. It was only after he woke up that he realised no one had wished him happy birthday or gotten him anything.
