Chapter 18

Evelyn woke up the next morning earlier than usual, bubbling with excitement. It's been long since she'd been home and she also wanted to see Nick coupled with his new mate.
She hoped she was beautiful and friendly. Staying over there for some days even appealed to her.

Quickly cleaning up, she pulled on a pair of dark blue skinny jeans with a cream colored top finished off with a pair of cream colored sandals. Carefully applying her mascara and pale pink lipstick, she pulled up her hair in her usual messy bun. Grabbing her phone, she left the room.

Passing by Emily's room, she knocked.
"Em, I'm leaving " she announced wondering if her friend was still asleep.
"Leaving already? " came the lazy reply as Emily opening the door with her house coat tightly wrapped around her body.
"Uh huh"
"Is he here?"
Evelyn shook her head "Let me call him "
Emily yawned heavily as her friend's placed a quick call to her brother, ignoring Evelyn's silent protests that she should cover her mouth.

"He's here "Evelyn said immediately after the call, sounding surprised to a totally unsurprised Emily.
He better be here, for his sake. Emily thought to herself.
"Run along then, don't wanna keep him waiting " she said pushing her friend gently eager to get her out of the way.
"Okay. Enjoy your romantic outing." she said happily jogging down the stairs. Emily only folded her arms watching her friend's back with a smile tugging at the corner of her lips.

" I wasn't expecting you to be so early. Can't wait for me to your mate eh? Me too, I can't wait to see my sister in law. I really hope she's both beautiful and lively, you know how much I detest boring people, don't you? Anyways, if she's a bore, you know you can always trust me to change her. All I need is just a week and...... " Evelyn had been rambling on for the past two minutes since she got into the car, asking and answering her questions while leaning forward to a totally fatigued Nick.
"Why don't you wait till you finally see her, my ears are screaming " he cut in immediately, unable to bear the talking any longer.
"Hmmph! Whatever" she said flipping her hair to his face in annoyance.

"We are here " Nick announced tapping his sister who had dozed off few seconds after her rambling seized, leaving him in a  comfortable silence punctuated by her snores.
"What? Oh, home." she said taking in her surroundings. It felt like ages since she had last been here and she missed it terribly.  After stretching her arms while letting out a yawn, she got out of the car.
"I miss home. I wonder if mom and dad plan on spending eternity wherever they are? "
"I thought the same too, but I'm not complaining. Come on " he replied leading her to the house.

Nick hesitated a bit before knocking on the door to buy time for his sister who was absent-mindedly brushing off a nonexistent dirt from her dress.
"Yep, coming! " came from behind the door before it opened, revealing a girl.
Eve's jaw dropped unconsciously.
"Stop gawking " Nick whispered with a wide smile.
"Come in, don't mind your silly brother "
" I like you already! " Eve exclaimed as she followed Michelle in leaving him behind.
"You are really beautiful " Eve complimented as soon as her butt hit the couch.
"Geez, you're gonna make me blush. I'm glad I finally got to see you"
"Seriously, there's more to me than this pretty face " she announced pointing at her face.
"Oh yeah? Impress me then. Shoot "

"Aren't you guys done yet? I'm getting bored up here already. " Nicholas complained as soon as Emily picked up.
"Hang in there attaboy, we'll be done in a few minutes. "
"I hope so "

"Please forgive my manners, I guess I got carried away by our conversation and honestly, I don't even want us to stop but I have to get you something so what do I get you? "
That moment, Eve thanked the moon goddess for giving a nice sister in law. The conversation they just had was perfect.
"What do you have? "
" I intended making macaroni and cheese for lunch and I was wondering whether you'd like to..... "
"Say no more, let's just head over to the kitchen"
"Babe, you're really the best!" Michelle exclaimed with a huge grin.
"Only the smart ones know that " she mumbled as her mind strayed to a certain someone.

"About time! "Nicholas exclaimed  as soon as his eyes caught the already made dinning table. Sitting down in haste, he rubbed his hands together watching them serve him.

"This looks yummy " Nick commented looking longingly at his mate.
"I wonder if you're referring to the food or someone else "
"Evie! " Michelle cut in, trying to hide her red face to Nick's amusement.
"You're welcome "
Evelyn was just about to grab another spoonful when her phone rang. She got scared when she saw Em's name on the screen.
Did something happen at the picnic?  She wondered as she received the call.
"Hi Em, what's.... "
"Your room is ablaze! "
"What?! "
"No kidding, it's up in flames, you need to come back immediately!!" Em hung up immediately.
"What happened? "
Eve looked up to the concerned faces of her companions.
"My room is on fire?"
"Oh.. " Michelle exclaimed looking at her mate for help.
"That only means one thing " Nick started, taking a break from his food for the first time and looked at his sister " it's time to go "

Adonis sighed softly as he continued on his way to return Eve's slippers (the one she forgot in his office) to her. He wondered what she was up to, he hasn't seen her since morning. He was already close to his destination when he perceived something burning. He raced forward, trusting his nostrils.
"Damn it!" he cursed loudly as soon as he found the almost charred room.

Emily and Oliver made themselves available as soon as they heard his shout.
"Oh my goodness!! I have to tell Eve" Emily exclaimed feigning innocence.
"I'll go get help" Oliver announced exiting the scene. "I'll go with you " Adonis followed closely behind missing the toothy grin Emily flashed at his back.
