Eighteen Years Ago
A small boy smiles up at the TV in front of him; glasses sliding down his greasy nose and eyes behind them as wide as saucers. wonder filled his head, however, it wasn't fairies or worlds of chocolate for this one. No; this blue eyed boy was stuck on a not so empty skating rink. You could see the smile of his widen as flowers hit the smooth ice even before someone slides out onto it.
"Yuuko, come here! You'll miss it!" The small boy calls out in a rush. He didn't even turn to look at the hallway that lead to the small worn out bench he sat on presently. The TV in front of him was a crappy one that had been put there for the small children watching for this very moment.
Wooden benches couldn't be very comfortable; even for small children like the one glued to the TV. Not to mention the oversized skates that were hanging from his small feet untied. The weight forced the small boy into a very uncomfortable position on the wooden bench. He didn't seem to mind.
Or at least, his smile wouldn't let you believe anything could ever be wrong with him. It was one of those smiles that children were known for. One that seemed to beam with life and innocence that adults couldn't ever seem to pull off after their long hard days at work. Yet, this one boy with skates untied and a small TV that blurred out every few seconds lit up the room with his breathtaking happiness.
"I'm not gonna miss it." Another child joined the young boy after the reply. This one was an older girl with skates in her hand. Just as she sat down beside the smaller boy the crowd on TV erupted into cheers. "See? Made it didn't I Yuuri?"
Yuuri only nods silently at her words. He reaches up to press his glasses up on his nose; his whole body leaning forwards in anticipation after the action. It was as if he was holding his breath. I'm pretty sure he was.
Silver hair flashes across the screen just as the camera zooms in on the middle of the ice rink. With a wave that could mock prom queens and a body that would make supermodels, he slide into the middle of the room.
Yuuri was in awe. No matter how many times the boy had seen him he couldn't get the dumn grin off his face or stop his stupid heart from skipping a beat. Yuuko could see the smaller boy's cheeks blush a soft pink from the side.
It was Viktor.
As soon as the camera flashes onto him; it flashes off. For a few moments adult talk filled the suddenly silent room of two. Both of whom were sitting patiently on a crooked old bench that hadn't been cleaned properly in a day. Viktor Nikiforov was announced, as well as his music of choice and the basic opening Yuuri had memorized by this point in the season. Having watched every performance of the ice skater leading up to his big moment now it surprised no one.
Then the music started.
At first it was a small trickle, barely noticable above the roars of the crowd and the laughs of the annoucers; then a BANG, and Viktor was off.
Yuuri felt each chord resonate in his soul. Every beat made his heart pound; every decresendo made tears well in his eyes; every jump of Viktor on screen made him want to shout out at the world. If he had been on the ice he was sure he would have been just as dramatic as Viktor.
Dramatic he was, as well. Yuuri watched silver hair twirl around the rink like he owned the place. He saw the ice skater's feet lift from the ground like a balloon and land like a butteerfly, minus the shards of ice that flung up and reflected light beaming down from the source high above.
Viktor didn't miss a beat. His legs splay out at the right moments and swing in with the beat.
Yuuri didn't miss a beat either. Even as the annoucers ramble fillled the TV with annoyingly unimportant things Yuuri as locked onto the song. In that moment all that mattered was Viktor, Yuuri, and the music that brought them together that glue.
"He's flawless." Yuuko mutters from beside Yuri just as Viktor's music starts to quiet. For a few moments after she was met with nothing but silence, Yuuri milking out the last few chords before he managed to tear his eyes away from the the TV. His heart was pounding. He could feel his brain thudding softly against his skull as if he had just smacked it against the wall a million times in a row.
That always happened. Yuuri's headaches had haunted him for years by this point. They would hit at the weirdest possible times and pass with no pattern. One night he would be trying to sleep with a thudding head that leaked music he had never heard and the next night he slept like a rock. Usually, the headaches lasted for weeks at a time and then disappeared for months on end. It was like they were on a schedule, but his parents didn't really seem too worried about them. Whenever he asked them about the pounding in his skull they had simply waved him away with a faint smile on their faces.
"Of course he was. It's Viktor." Yuuri sighs softly and sets his hands on his knees; a basic lovesick puppy look. "He couldn't do any wrong."
Yuuko laughs softly from beside her smaller friend, jumping off the bench easily with her unusual heighth. Soft socks hit harsh tile underneath her with a thud.
"Now give me your feet, you still suck at tying your skates and I don't want you to fall." Yuuri didn't reply to his girl friend as she took his small skate covered foot in her right hand.
Yuuri was still far away from the world around him. On screen Viktor was offering his sunshine smile, his hand raised high in the air to the crowds of people throwing stuffed animals and flowers at him. He would skate here and there every few seconds to pick up debree from his fans; some would be stuffed animals of his dog and others roses upon roses that fit his blue eyes perfectly.
"He's perfect."
(Hey guys! Lexialexus here with yet another story! Now, if you haven't already figured out this story is a soulmate AU in which when one soulmate listens to a song the other will be able to hear the song in his head! I thought this would make a good match with Yuuri on Ice and I hope you all enjoy this story! It may not follow the storyline of the show as well as it should but... I have to change some things to make it work!)
