Ivorys pov

I watch as Rook bounds away and into the trees, "I'm so sorry."

I look at the pup with apologetic eyes, he just frowns up at me, "Why?"

I roll my eyes slightly, "Because you're stuck with her."

Noir steps back with his ears pinned to his head, "Don't talk about her like that! She is my mother now and she promised to take care of me, and she saved me!"

I stare at him with wide eyes, "What do you mean by saved you?"

He paws at the ground and looks at the space in the trees that Rook disappeared in, "The wolves that are now dead weren't my original pack, they had killed my pack and stollen me. She wasn't lying when she said that she gave them a chance to leave me and turn around but they refused so she ripped them to shreds, I was there I saw her power, her teeth...her claws..."

I watch in horror as tears roll down his face,

He witnessed the whole thing and he sounds terrified!

I grab him by the scruff and pull him up onto the rock with me, "Then why do you defend her if you are so scared of her?"

He looks up at me like I am an idiot, "Because she saved my life."

I'm about to say something else but a ferocious growl rips through the air and a bear storms into the meadow, I immediately jump to my feet and put Noir behind me with my teeth bared. The bear glares at me and roars, it stomps towards us and raises itself on its hind legs, I snarl at it as Cyclone, Broach and Willow come to my aid, we all snap and snarl at it but it just roars again and swings at us. I close my eyes bracing for the impact of the bears paw but instead there is a blood chilling slashing sound and a thump. I open my eyes to see the bear turned away from us and Rook slowly getting to her feet with blood pouring from large slashes on her side to pool on the ground below her. Rook snarls at the bear and raises her head to stare at it right in the eye, the bear noticeably shrinks lower to the ground and pulls back its ears, Rook stalks toward it like she can't even feel her injuries. She snarls until she stands right in front of it and opens her jaw wide putting it around the bears and biting down hard but not hard enough to break its muzzle, the bear whimpers and sinks completely to the floor.

"Do not hurt a member of this pack, ever!"

I drop to my stomach and feel the need to worship this large red eyed wolf, around me the others are doing the same. Rook snarls again and releases the bear's muzzle, it immediately scampers off whimpering.

With a sigh she turns to us, "Are you all alright? Did I make it in time?"

I slowly pick myself up and shake my head clearing my mind,

"Yes, we are all ok, thank you Rook." Willows voice sounds small and weak compared to Rooks previous order at the bear.

"Yay, that was awesome!"

Noir leaps out from behind me and jumps around Rooks legs, she chuckles even though her eyes are full of pain and blood is still gushing from her side in a steady stream, "Calm down there big guy, I brought you food, are you hungry?"

She lowers her head and he licks her bottom jaw to say yes, she closes her eyes tightly and grimaces as she regurgitates a ball of meat into his mouth. I step toward her to try and clean her wounds a bit but she just steps away from me with a wary look in her eyes,

"I'm just going to clean your wound."

I try to sound as harmless as possible but she shakes her head while taking another step away, "No, I don't want you to get your fur bloody, I will take care of my wound just make sure the others are alright."

I watch her walk away with an obvious limp on her clawed side.

So that I don't get my fur bloody!?

I wait for Noir to finish eating before I pick him up and take him to the other pups so that he can play and make friends, the whole time my mind on why Rook took so much damage to save us, why the bear looked so terrified, and why she had that effect on all of us.
