So, this was interesting enough.

Aelin dragged her hands on the sea of grass, the microscopic blades kissing at her skin.

She'd have to go deeper if she wanted the fireflies to awake. So she dropped her schoolbag in the heel high rain water and ran with her arms out. And fairy lights peppered the atmosphere as they awoke. For a moment, she wasn't alone in this musty lake, for a moment, Sam was with her too, dancing in tall grass- falling back into the lake to wake up the bound blazes that would light up this night.

The stars returning to the sky; just once more would she want to wake up the sky with him.

She cradled herself in the lake water, fireflies resting on her head of hair, as she jolted her head out of her knees at the booming sound of lightning. As the purple and pink light ripped threw the flesh of the sky, rain water ran down her body.

As the fireflies returned to the sky, the storm returned its water to the lake; drowning the still resting stars. Aelin left her bag in the lake as she forced herself back to the estate.

Never again would the stars light up the night to find their way back home.

When the main doors hissed, Rubens shoulders sagged. He had been on edge, he realized, and when Aelin made it home safe, he should of beat the shit out of her.

Safe. He realized. She was safe. He should of gotten up, should of confronted or yelled at her. Should make her suffer for what he went through waiting for her.

But he just sat. Not paying attention to what he was reading, as if everything was normal.

He really needed a drink.

Everyday, Aelin came home late, and everyday, Ruben said nothing.

Today, however, he was feeling particularly pissy. So when he found about a dozen bottles of pills missing, he quietly stalked up to her room.

He had been distracted lately, but not enough to lose those bottles from the kitchen cabinetry.

It took all his well-being, but he opened Aelin's door calmly. Deathly calm.
"Just like your Mother. Stealing, from those to which they have gave."

She said nothing.

"You can give the pills back now, and suffer no less than having to sleep outside if you try and lie about taking them."

Aelin stayed silent.

So Ruben did the same, only using his hands to grip her arm and wrench her out of the room. Her head was held low as he dragged her down the stairs and out the door. Oak doors slammed shut out a face of his own bloodline.

When he went back up to the room, he withdrew a cold breath. It felt good, after what she put him through, to make her suffer just a little. All the stress, making him think she would be hurt or disappear.

He went up back to the room and didn't take him long to find the pill bottles under the bed. In his hands, though, they felt oddly.. light. Empty.

He didn't need to check inside to know they were.

Aelin had taken all these pills, and he just threw her out in the cold to die.
