Chapter II

October 27, 2014

“This strategy was based on how they thought Great Britain and France would help the south…”

I zoomed out as I stared down at my watch.  It was only a few minutes until the lunch hour would actually begin and I had to admit that for the first time, I was nervous about skipping school. I had done it before with Justin obviously, but today I didn’t feel so sure about it.

“Ashley, mind telling us what exactly was Lincoln’s cabinet?”

I snapped my gaze towards the teacher, my cheeks flushing slightly. “Um,”

Miss Reynolds raised an eyebrow at my direction as she crossed her arms over her chest. I looked away, blushing as I noticed the way her arms lifted her chest up, making them more noticeable.  It was no clue of how young and hot Miss Reynolds was. Every girl in school was always trying to flirt with her or trying to get her attention. I on the other hand, couldn’t even stare at her without blushing or feeling like a moron.

I couldn’t help it. She was beautiful, tall, and blonde and green eyed, 20 something year old that came into a high school full of hormone crazed teenage girls.

“Would anybody like to help Miss Harrison?” The teacher asked moving her gaze at different students.

I sighed in relief, scooting lower on my seat as if trying to make myself unnoticed.

“I’ll help her,”

I looked up slightly and saw a hand rise.

“Yes, Samantha?” The teacher asked as she took a sit behind her desk. “Tell Ashley what was Lincoln’s cabinet.”

“Well, from the small things I understand, Lincoln’s cabinet was made out by different members and they would discuss the emancipation process and different laws, right?”

The teacher pursed her red lips but nodded slightly. “Yes, yes that is true. What else can we say about the cabinet? Ethan?”

The bell rang not soon after and I was more than happy to get out of the classroom. While getting my things from the locker, I felt a hand touch my shoulder. I turned around and saw Samantha standing behind me, her cheeks slightly pink.

Samantha was a pretty girl, she was shorter than me, and her skin slightly tanned and had long brown hair. We didn’t talk much, only when she needed to borrow notes from classes, which I mostly never had.

“Hey, Samantha,” I said, turning around to close my locker as I swung my bag over my shoulder.

“H-Hey, Ashley. I was wondering if you, um, maybe, might possibly, want to go and have um lunch with me?”

“Um, I’m kind of leaving for the lunch hour, sorry.” I said smiling apologetically.

“Oh,” She said her face dropping a bit.

“Ashley?”

I looked behind and saw Justin walking our way, he motioned for me to follow him outside and I nodded. “Look, Samantha, I gotta go. But, I promise we’ll have lunch together tomorrow, okay?”

She smiled and nodded. “Okay, thanks.”

“Did that just happened?” Justin asked as we both started walking away from my locker.

“Did what just happen?” I asked, confused.

“Samantha Hasting asking you, Ashley Harrison, on a date.”
