prologue

In the living room of the Salvatore Boarding house, Elena Gilbert sat with her boyfriend Stefan Salvatore, and his brother, Damon. Across the room, standing near the fire place, was Elijah Mikaelson. The four discussing the event that would soon be present in their lives.

"Tonight, is the full moon. We should assume that Klaus is prepared to break the curse." Elijah explained to the trio in front of him.

"Elena said that the Sun and the Moon curse is fake? That it's actually just a curse placed on Klaus." Stefan asked for confirmation.

"Klaus is a vampire born of a werewolf bloodline. The curse has kept his werewolf aspect from manifesting. But if he breaks it...He'll be a true hybrid." Elijah elaborated. Damon stands in the middle of everyone.

"Then why are we letting him break the curse? We can kill him today. With Bonnie." Damon enforced, a scowl on his face. Stefan sighed from his next to Elena.

"Damon..." Stefan began but the brunette next to him interrupted him.

"No. Bonnie can't use that much power without dying." Elena denied.

"I'll write her a great eulogy." Damon shot back to the doppelganger. Elena shakes her head and glares slightly at the raven-haired vampire.

"It's not an option, Damon." Elena firmly stated, the discussion over. Damon's scowl remains imprinted on his face.

"All right, how do we break this curse?" Stefan asked the Original vampire in the room.

"Well, the ritual itself is relatively straightforward. The ingredients, so to speak, you already know." Elijah began saying. Stefan nodded.

"The moonstone."

"A witch will channel the power of the full moon to release the spell that's bound within the stone. After that, Klaus, being both werewolf and vampire, will sacrifice one of each." The brunette vampire explained the steps.

"And where do I fit into it?" Elena asked.

"The final part of the ritual." Elijah states as he takes a wooden box from the shelf. "Klaus must drink the blood of the doppelgänger...to the point of your death." Elijah finishes. Damon looks at Elena as Stefan takes her hand as a sign of comfort. Eliajh opens the box and takes a jar from it.

"And that's where you come in." Elena stated, looking at the vintage jar.

"This is an elixir that I acquired some 500 years ago for Katerina. It possesses mystical properties of resuscitation." Elijah told the current doppelganger.

"So I'll be dead?" Elena asked. Elijah nodded.

"And then you won't." He confirmed.

"That's your plan? A magical witch potion with no expiration date?" Damon spoke up once again. He turns to Elena, "You want to come back to life, what about John's ring?" Damon put the idea out there.

"Those rings only work on humans. The doppelgänger's a supernatural occurrence. Odds are, the ring won't work." Elijah shot down the idea.

"I'll take those odds over your elixir. What if it doesn't work, Elena?" Damon asked the doppelganger he was currently in love with.

"Then I guess I'll just be dead." Elena simply states. Damon looks at Stefan but his younger brother shrugs. Damon scoffs at the three in the room before leaving.

"Do we know if Klaus has everything he needs to do this? Does he have a werewolf?" Elena asked after a moment of silence.

"Klaus has been waiting to break this curse for over a thousand years. If he doesn't already have a werewolf, my guess is by tonight, he will." Elijah spoke before looking down at the elixir. "There is something else you must prepare for. This could either benefit you or ruin this whole plan." Elijah brought forward to the couple. The two looks at Elijah in curiosity.

"What else?" Stefan asked.

"Adeline." Elijah states. "She is my younger sister but Klaus' older. She's always present if the both of us are in the same place, at the same time." The original explained. Elena looked confused.

"Why would this possibly ruin everything?" Elena asked.

"She is incredibly protective of Klaus, and she is incredibly strong."
