chapter 4

Rebekah sat on one of the couches of the Salvatore Boarding House, painting her nails for homecoming, as her father laid dead on the floor with a dagger in his chest. The Salvatore's brought in her father to kill Klaus and out of anger for the death of her mother, she agreed to help. She continued painting her nails, not even flinching when Mikael sprung up into a sitting position, groaning slightly from the affects of the dagger.

"Finally. Took you long enough." Rebekah remarked to her father as she finished her nails.

"Rebekah." Mikael gasps, shocked to see his youngest child in front of him. He went to say something more, but Rebekah stopped him.

"Whatever fatherly rubbish you're thinking, save it. Nothing you say matters to me." Rebekah harshly spoke.

"I see. Where is my dagger?" Mikael asked after a moment of silence. Rebekah rolled her blue eyes at his question.

"Elena has it. So you can forget your plans to use it on me." Rebekah explained, examining her nails.

"You were never what I was after." Mikael tried to explain.

"Nik was my family. If you were after him, you were after me." Rebekah shot back, still defending her older brother.

"He blinded you, Rebekah. He killed your mother!" Mikael's rage at Nik began to show as his voice got louder and louder.

"I know what he did, and he'll pay for it with his life. But Nik was not born a killer- none of us were! You did this to us when you turned us into vampires!" Rebekah yelled back, "You destroyed our family. Not him." She finished, her voice now barely above a whisper.

"Rebekah..." Mikael tried but his youngest daughter walked away, further into the Salvatore House. Mikael stood in the parlor for a moment alone, thinking about the previous few minutes, then the Salvatore brothers entered from behind.

"Everything is set into place." Damon announced. Stefan made a face that Mikael noticed as her turned to face the brothers.

"Expect Adeline and her family." Stefan pointed out. Mikael froze at the mention of his eldest daughter.

"Adeline is here, in Mystic Falls?" Mikael asked. Damon nodded.

"Along with her husband and children." Damon explained. Mikael almost smiled at the mention of his granddaughters, not realizing there was another one now.

"They're going to be there tonight, Adeline is the new guidance counselor at the school, she a mandatory chaperone." Stefan informed the two.

"Not to mention all three of her kids go to school" Damon added, pouring himself a drink.

"Three?" Mikael asked confused, only knowing Cora and Skylar.

"Hazel, she's the youngest, and she is human. We could use that to our advantage." Stefan planned, but Damon immediately shut that down.

"Do you want her to kill us? We even think about touching any of them and Adeline will kill us all in an instant. The target is Klaus." Damon all but shouted at his emotionless brother. Mikael instantly agreed.

"We only have a weapon for Niklaus, we cannot risk Adeline because I could not defeat her." Mikael said before walking away from the brothers. His daughter and grandchildren on his mind.

Adeline rushed around her home, helping her daughters get ready for homecoming as well as herself. The four were all in Adeline's room. Skylar was doing Hazel's hair as Cora did her own makeup. Adeline stood behind Skylar, putting her daughter's light brown locks into beachy waves. Hazel has softly singing a random song, bring a calm mood around the room. A soft ding interrupted as Adeline's phone went off. The original walked over, reading the new text. At the same time, Hazel's phone went off.
