Episode 5 - Closer

Mitsue's PoV

The next day, I woke up pretty early and I went to the bathroom to take a shower. I put on my school uniform and fixed my hair, trying to look smart.

Knock! Knock!

"You're up early. Good morning!" Kiyoshi came into my room.

"You're up early too. Good morning, Kiyoshi."

"Well, mom woke me up because she has to go with Dad to Kyoto for a few days."

"I see."

"Is something wrong with you, Mitsue? I can feel you're a bit different today." Kiyoshi looked worried.

"What makes you say that? I'm totally fine."
"But your scent is different."

What did he mean by that? Gosh! He's starting to creep me out.

"What are you saying, man? You're acting like a dog!!" I teased but his face turned gray. "Kiyoshi?"

"Never mind. Just come down already. Breakfast is ready."

Then he went downstairs without looking back at me. What's with him? Did I say something wrong?

We had our breakfast silently, then Kiyoshi got onto his bike and I sat at the back. He seemed really mad at me.

When we got to the school, he went ahead of me without saying a word so I just decided to go to my class. I was still early so there were a few students in the hallway. When I entered my class, my eyes widen... Nozomi's the only one in the class! My worries about Kiyoshi just faded away.

Ta-thump! Ta-thump!

My heart's racing again. Seeing her face, her hair.. everything about her make me feel as if the time itself has stopped.

"G-good morning, Nozomi!" I greeted, trying to look clamed.

"Good morning!" and she smiled. Gosh!! Her smile!!! I placed my bag under my desk and sat a little more closer to her.

"Can I.. umm..." I gulped. I really want to do something to her.

"What?"

"You're a vampire, right? After yesterday, I can see that you are. Normal people don't do stuffs like that. Plus, you're friggin' cold, just like those vamps in the novels or movies." I told her with a sarcastic tone.

"It's not that I want to live like this."

"What do you mean? And how old are you, by the way? Must be in your hundreds."

"Idiot!" She hit me with the book she was reading. "I'm the same age with you! I was a human being just like you. However, to keep me alive, my mother turned me into a vampire. But, yes, as soon as I turn twenty, I will stop aging."

"Cool!!" I exclaimed.

"No, it's not." The sudden change in her tone makes me wonder.

This girl, is not how everyone thinks she is, or how I thought she would be. She is just a teenager, a lonely one because of her difference.

"You, human beings, might think it would be great to become a vampire. But, this hunger.. the thirst for blood.. The instincts taking over you. It's evil. We're nothing more than animals."

"Oh!" I said.

'Stupid Mitsue. Now you just made her feel sad.' I thought to myself.

"Look... umm.. you might think I'm crazy but I'm interested in you."

She looked at me, confused.

"No! No! No! What I mean is that your kind and stuffs and you know, I'm not scared. So you can be friends with me.. Hell, we're already friends."

'Another sick move.' I mentally slapped myself.

"Thank you, Mitsue. You know, you seem to be a nice guy for a human being." She said, giggling.

I laughed too. She is too cute to be a vicious creature of the night. Too innocent, too pure and too lovely.

I wanted to know more and more about her. I want to be her friend.

"Umm, Nozomi-chan... Umm can I see your fangs?" My curiosity got over me.

She froze. Then she bowed down her head onto my shoulder.

"No-Nozomi-chan? Hey?" I yelped, my heart beating fast.

Then suddenly lifted her face, which somehow got close to mine.

I stopped breathing for a sec or two.

Then she smiled with her tiny white fangs bearing among her perfect teeth.

That smile. Every guy on the planet would fall for her. Suddenly, the school bell rang and she pulled herself back to her seat and returned to her ice-cold expression. Students came rushing in and I saw Ren among them. She smiled at me and get to her seat.

Miss Minami came in afterwards and another day at school starts again. But I kept wondering, how and why vampires exist. Why is Nozomi so beautiful.
