sadie

"you look lovely." my dad smiles at me while i walked down the stairs.

"i wasn't really sure what to wear." i let out a small laugh and look at my maroon jumper and black jeans, millie and i were going roller skating out of town for our date, i haven't been roller skating since i was 8 so i was a bit nervous.

i went to the bathroom three times before millie showed up, when i get nervous i always have to pee real bad, the doorbell rang and my dad walked to open it."

"no!" i exclaimed and ran past him, he put up his hands defensively. i opened the door to see millie smiling at me holding a single violet flower.

"hello!" she grins and hands me the flower, "this is for you." she kisses me on the cheek.

"who would've thought you'd be the romantic kind." i tease, millie walks in and i put the violet into a cup of water.

"hey millie how you going love?" my dad yells back from the couch, he was sitting down doing crosswords.

"i'm good thanks." millie smiles at my dad.

"i'll be home by 1, if anything changes i'll call you straight away, i love you." i say as i walk over to my dad and give him a kiss on the cheek.

"okay i love you too, have a good time. go get em tiger." he says and taps me on the arm.

millie walked beside me out the front doorway and i opened the front door for her, we hop in her car which was a little silver toyota corolla and we drove off. after about an hour and after multiple songs were screamed, we pulled into the parking lot of a large building, millie and i got out of the car and she put out her hand for me to hold it, the two of us bouncily walked into to the rink together.

"shoe size?" the teenage girl behind the register asked unenthusiastically.

"7 1/2 i say." and she passes me a white pair of skates which had faded to a kind of greyish colour.

"an 8 please." millie smiles and is passes a bright blue pair.

"unfair yours are cooler." i pout. she smiles and chakra her head.

we sat down on one of the stools and tied up our laces. when i stood up i felt like a baby giraffe, i waddled over time the rink and held onto the wall tightly. millie however was quite good at skating she stood in front of me skating backwards offering her hands so that she could drag me.

eventually i got the hang of it and the two of us skated in circles with everyone else around us, i few almost falls but i caught myself every time, it felt good to be with millie, i mean i cant explain the way i feel when i am around her, i get butterflies in my stomach and i feel like i'm floating.

"when you feel like you're gonna fall bend your knees." millie says and demonstrates.

after a few hours of intense skating, millie and i decided to leave to get some dinner it was dark out and we went to the pizza place near the rink and we made our way back on the road to be sitting at a picnic table on the lookout over hawkins.

"yknow hawkins actually looks kinda beautiful from up here." she takes a bite of her pizza.

"you look beautiful from up here." i nudge her playfully.

"fuck that's so cringy." she laughs and looks down.

"i know, but honestly thank you, i'm having a really good time." i say as i take the last bite of my pizza and throw the boxes into the bin.

"i'm glad, i was really scared yknow. i know you've only lived here 5 weeks but i really like you sadie, and i'm glad you said yes." millie smiles and looks at me.

"i'm glad i said yes too." i whisper and we lean our faces closer together and lock lips, i put my hand up to her face and i felt her arms snake around my back.  we pulled away to catch our breath and i rested my head on her shoulder, we sat there on top of the picnic table until the mosquitos lead us back to the car.

we drove towards the beach, millie's hand in mine, this was a different inexplicable feeling, these were the moments i lived for, the days that made me fall in love with being alive.

"race you?" i say as we pull up at the parking lot of the beach, millie and i get out of the car and look at each-other, i throw my phone on the passenger seat along with my shoes. millie looks at me and it was if we telepathically counted down from three. as we ran i took off my sweater and unbuttoned my jeans and tried to pull them off without falling over, millie had a dress on so she had an advantage, we threw our clothes in the sand and dove into the cold water, i swam under for a bit and came up gasping for air.

"i won." millie poked her tongue out at me and i ran at her and crash tackled her. we came up and she splashed me with water, in the moonlight she looked beautiful, i grinned at her while she laughed and flicked water at me.

"what." she giggles.

"nothing." i shake my head and splash her.

at around 12:30 millie and i sat in her car out the front of my house, i saw that the front light was still on so my dad was definitely still awake. before i got out i kissed her again.

"thank you, so much." i whisper with our foreheads touching.

"anytime, i'm glad you had a good time, i'll see you on monday." she smiles and leans in for another kiss.

i walked up the the front door holding my shoes and jeans, i put my key in the latch and my dad was still on the couch having a glass of wine, now watching tv.

"heyyyy sades." he says quietly and looks at me to see me half naked and drenched. "looks like you had a good time." he smiles.

"yeah dad, it was incredible. i'm gonna go to bed, na night." i smile and walk upstairs, i walked into my room and shut the door behind me, i slid down it smiling, and for a little while nothing else seemed relevant, there was only one thing on my mind.

you millie bobby brown, it was you.
