CHAPTER TWO
UNEXPECTED VISITORLIFE IN BEACON Hills was unpredictable. That had been the word Cara decided to use to describe the small town. She had encountered three weird experiences since her arrival, and little did she know those were children games compared to what awaited her. The first two experiences involved the crazy behaviour of animals. But the third one, the one that she couldn't shake off her head was the nightmare she had on Wednesday night. It felt so real to her, she woke up the next morning covered in sweat, her whole body trembling.
Her blue eyes were bloodshot, because of the amount of tears that she shed before waking up. In her nightmare, she could only see through the eyes of a stranger, trapped inside of a body that didn't belong to her. The fear, and pain from the stranger became hers in that nightmare, and when she opened her eyes, screaming at the top of her lungs, she could still feel the open cuts on her feet, the uncertainty of her fate, the way someone smashed her head before cutting her throat and how life left her as she was strangled.
Being an eighteen year old teenager, one would've assumed her life was unproblematic, easy, simple. But, as a baby vampire —as her aunt chose to call her— everything in her life was slightly crumbling apart. She hadn't talked about her father's death since Damon took her home, and ever since she hadn't cried because of the suppressed accumulation of emotions burning inside of her. It surprised her that the bad dream had succeeded in letting out a few tears, but more than anything, it surprised her how little did she know about the things happening to her since her transition.
She didn't have hundred year-olds vampires to guide her on this new chapter of her life.
The birds avoiding her out of nowhere only made it clear that something else was going on in her life.
As he was ripping Hans' heart out of his chest, Klaus suggested things about the ancestors of the Thorsen family. He claimed the secret would die with her father, before she died as well. That night was still a blur in Cara's mind, she didn't even remember who had fed her their blood before killing her—whether it had been Klaus or Stefan—, nor she could understand why the hybrid let her live if he had promised to end her life along with her father's.
For the past two days, after her first day of school, she had done everything possible to ignore the fear she felt. Fear was something she hated, for it made her weak and vulnerable. In her mind, the incidents that happened with the animals only meant a natural disaster was coming, either an earthquake or a tornado. Part of her hoped one of those two disasters would happen, because then it meant she was truly free from the supernatural world. The other part of her, the realist one, knew it was pointless to think she would ever be free from that world, and that she hadn't escaped it despite being in a different place.
