Elias is a little unsure of how to answer Mary's question, how old is Rose. He wonders if Mary will accept him for being with a younger girl.

Mary: How old is she Elias?

Elias: Promise me, you'll always be my friend, no matter what.

Mary grabs Elias' hand.

Mary: I am your friend, forever. You can tell me her age.

Elias: She's fifteen.

Mary is shocked, and a little hurt.

Mary: Why, would you be so into a little girl?

Elias: She is basically an adult.

Mary: In a few years she'll be.

Elias: I don't go by numbers. Really, what do they tell you about someone? So someone is an adult, only if the country they are in says so? But what if they go somewhere else, and that country, or even state, says they are or aren't an adult? How are you an adult in some places, but not others?

Mary: I don't know. But still Elias, fifteen? No other woman, even me, none of us appeal to you as much as this girl?

Elias: I am very attracted to her. But there's so much more to it.

Mary: I'm here for you Elias. I'm on your side. I just, need some answers as to how you are feeling so close to someone so young that can have hardly anything in common with you.

Elias: We just, connect. It's as if a force stronger than any of us, has brought us together. And I tried to stay away once I found out her age, but I just couldn't do it any longer. I had to be with her again.

Mary gets tears in her eyes.

Mary: Do you love her?

Elias: Yes, I do.

Mary: I love you Elias.

Elias: I love you too Mary. You are like a sister to me.

Mary stands up.

Mary: I always kind of liked it how we were both always single. We had so much in common to talk about. And we always spent time together. Now you've found someone. And I'm all alone. No one for me to spend time with anymore.

Elias: Mary it's not like that. We can still spend time together.-

Mary: -No Elias. I know how relationships go.

A tear comes down each of Mary's eyes.

Mary: You want to spend your time with her now. I understand, and I won't try to stand in your way. I just need some time alone though.

Mary leaves the house. Elias looks in Kazuo's room, but no one is there. Then Rose calls Elias.

Elias: Hey.

Rose: I need to ask you something.

Elias: Ok. What is it?

Rose: Well first I need to tell you something. My mother knows about us. And she's had people spying on us.-

Elias: -What!?

Rose: Yeah. The thing that has me confused is, they weren't able to get ANYTHING on you. Literally, they had NOTHING on you. On a birth certificate, or any work history, or ANYTHING. It's like your not real.

Elias: Ha, I am.

Rose: So, why is there no trace of your existence then?

Elias: I'd rather tell you these things in person. I'll pick you up tonight.
