Well, you know how I've been seeing this man?" Unfortunately, yes. Ever since his parents got divorced, his Mom has been going to one guy to the next. What a joy that has been. "Well, he proposed!"
Ace almost choked on his pancakes. "He what?!"
His mother showed off the engagement ring, making it all the more real. "He proposed to me!" I think I'm going to be sick. He pursed his lips.

Dawn rubbed her eyes as yesterdays events sank in. How did I get here? Sitting up, she yawned, stretching as she did. Did my parents bring me up? She realized she was still in her outfit from yesterday.
They let me keep my shoes on? Pulling off her shoes and socks and tossing them aside, she then got up and ran her hand over the chair. No outfit today? She wrinkled her nose. "Why..." She trailed off.
"It's winter break." A smile grew on her face as she made her way downstairs. Mittens slept on the stairs, like he did every day. "Morning Mittens." She picked him up.
"Mew?" Mittens seemed to ask in his high pitched voice.
Carrying him down the steps, she set him down. "I don't have school today." Mittens couldn't actually understand her, but sometimes it seemed like it. Or maybe I'm just imagining it, she chuckled to herself. Not like they can actually understand me, she sometimes found herself talking to Jacks too.
Mittens brushed up against her leg, meowing even louder. "Okay, okay!" She chuckled even more. "I hear you, I hear you." Dawn threw her hands up in the air as she walked to the kitchen. "Jeez, you always want food."
Grabbing a can off the counter, she placed it up the can opener and turned it on. The whole time the can was being opened, Mittens was at her legs. "Hold on Mittens." Turning off the can opener, she grabbed the can and went to the other side of the room and felt for the bowl with her foot.
Crouching down, she turned the can over and waited for the wet plop of the cat food. "Meeoow!" She could barely hear anything of his meowing.
"Okay Mittens, I hear you!" The can was lighter than before and she sighed. That took forever, she stood, knowing she didn't want to get in the way of his feast. The phone next to her suddenly began to rang, and she jolted, the memory of her birthday call fresh in her mind. Hesitantly, she reached for the phone, her stomach tightening as she did. "Hello?"
"Dawn?" She relaxed slightly when Ace's tense voice answered her. "Do you mind if I came over?" His tone kept her tense. What's wrong? She was biting her bottom lip again. Why the sudden call?
"Not at all." Despite her composure, she tried sounding content.
"Great," He seemed to be easing up. Never could be quite sure with Ace though. "I'll be there in about fifteen minutes." With that, he hung up, leaving her standing there listening to a constant beeping. What was up with that? Setting the phone back on the handset, she sighed, then ran her hand through her knotty hair. Might as well change, she leisurely walked back to her bedroom.
What to wear, what to wear? Running her hand across each felt, she wrinkled her nose. By the time I pick something, i'll be dead. With that in mind, she randomly selected a hanger and started to slip out of her clothes. Tossing her clothes aside, she then took the clothes off the hanger and put it on. This isn't a shirt, she was aware of the draft. How did this get into my winter clothes?Someone was knocking downstairs, and her heartbeat accelerated. He's here! Snatching a pair of pants from her dresser, she quickly pulled them on, and raced back downstairs. As she catched her breath, she grabbed the doorknob and opened the door. "Hey," She smiled.
"Can I come in?" He's in one of his moods again, she nodded, stepping aside. A breeze pasted her before she shut the door behind her. "A tank top?" There he is, She smirked, hoping she wasn't facing him.
"I like tank tops, ever think of that?" With one hand on her hip, she turned in what she thought was where he was."Yeah, but in winter?" He asked, and she rolled her eyes.
"You just don't know style." She teased.
"You wouldn't know style if it bit you in the-" Dawn plopped onto the couch, still smirking.
"In the what?" She dared him to continue. He's going to say it, she mentally high fived herself for cheering him up. Instead, there was silence. He didn't leave, did he? "Ace, you still there?""Right here." He said above her in a light hearted tone.
She frowned. "That was not funny Ace! I thought you actually left."
"I did leave," he admitted, and she was about to say something when he added. "I went to the kitchen to grab a couple of drinks." He popped a drink open. "Want one?"
"Yes," she leaned her head back into the sofa. "But not one you've already taken a sip out of."
"Aw, you sure?"
She started to laugh as he took a long sip of his. "yes, i'm sure." A cold drink was dropped in her lap, and she popped it open.
"You're no fun." It was her turn to take a sip of the sugary drink.
"Keep telling yourself that, I won't lose any sleep." A chuckle slipped past her lips. Her laughter died down and the silence was back. "Ace...?" She rested her head on the couch.
"My Mother's getting married." He said suddenly, and her eyes widened. No wonder he was so upset, she could remember when his parents got divorced. That night was unforgettable. "She just met the guy, and she's already getting married to him!" He exploded, and she winced at his tone.
The cushion next to her sank down. "She didn't even ask how I felt about it." His tone had quickly simmered down. Ace, Dawn rested her hand on his pants. I hope that's his lap, her heart was racing again.
