I couldn't believe the nerve of that General Teague! How dare he demote me when I was in the middle of squashing the growing rebellion! Three of the men under my command were killed, not by the fiendish Renegades, but by friendly fire from the dreadnought. I am now only one rank above a private. I have almost been demoted as far as I could be. My com-link buzzed in my ear.
"Admiral Sorrenson here. Corporal Rykes, your demotion as been waived. However, your rank as Major will be on a probation basis until further notice. When you screw up, you will become a Corporal again. Good day, Major Rykes." HA! Take that, General Teague! I'm back where I was! As I was hopping around in joy a buzz sounded. Over the whole communications system came this announcement;
"Good Afternoon, members of the noble Unstoppable Force. This is Admiral Sorrenson. I am heartbroken to have to announce this but I must. In our most recent battle, Admiral Newman was killed. However, I am delighted to say that General Teague will be attempting to fill his shoes. HURRAH FOR ADMIRAL TEAGUE!"
Around me, "HURRAH FOR ADMIRAL TEAGUE!" resonated from every corner. I however pouted. I was back where I needed to be and yet, Admiral Teague was even higher than he was before. I would just have to busy myself with finding the mastermind behind the Renegades. I would just have to prove I have what it takes to be a colonel.
