The three Superheroes got in the airlock room. At the signal, Hal reached for the handle and opened the door.

"Ladies first," he said. Kara smiled and they all took off together.

"When this is over," Green Lantern said as they flew out of the dark side of the Earth and headed towards the Sun, "We can enjoy some really great liquor I got over in the Left Sector."

"Is it very potent?" Kara inquired.

He smiled, "Oh yes. Enough to make him get silly," he jabbed a thumb towards Superman. Kara liked the way his mouth pulled up to one side when he smiled.

"Really?" Kara asked, intrigued.

"You better believe it. He had a party in his Ice Castle one time--"

"Fortress of Solitude," Superman corrected.

"Yeah bro. Anyways, he got so drunk, he asked Lois Lane if she was single--"

"HAL! Would you please FOCUS on the MISSION!" Superman barked.

They fell into an awkward silence after that. The sun was glowing brighter and brighter in the distance. Kara smiled to herself. Finally, a mission with Kal. A chance to prove herself. She could already feel herself growing stronger as they neared their destination.

"So tell me about your ring, Hal," she asked. She knew very little about the Green Lanterns. "What can it do?"

"Well, for starters, it allows me to fly," he said enthusiastically, striking a pose like Peter Pan. "And survive in almost any environment. But the coolest part is, I can will it to make virtually anything." He demonstrated this for her, making different bright green glowing objects: a sword, a beach ball, a chain saw, a rubber ducky.

"Wow! That is cool!!" Kara exclaimed. "So you control it with your mind?"

"Yeah. The ring draws on the wearer's willpower. And I happen to posses indomitable willpower." He flashed her his gorgeous smile. "As long as I can stay pretty well concentrated on making a construct, there's nothing this guy can't do."

"I'll try not to distract you then," Kara said.

"Oh I think it's a little too late for that, Princess," he winked.

"Hal." said Superman, and they both realized they had reached their destination. Before them was the enormous blazing star, our Sun. Headed straight for Earth was a massive outpouring of white-hot plasma. "Almost as hot as the core of the Sun itself," said Superman, "several million degrees Kelvin and traveling up to 1,000 kilometers per second."

"Supes, you're starting to freak me out. You're like a walking, talking, Wikipedia article," Hal said.

"I can't feel hot or cold," said Superman, ignoring him, "Can you feel anything, Hal?"

"Things are starting to heat up out here..."

"Be serious, Hal."

"I am being serious," he said, creating a large glowing green shield with his ring. It grew bigger and bigger and bigger.

Within a moment the large outstretched arm of plasma came in contact with Hal's shield. Hal gritted his teeth and stood firm, and for a second, it seemed he was holding it at bay.

Then suddenly it exploded across his shield and over every edge.

"Holy hell!!" He cried.

Superman and Kara rushed to help, employing their freeze breath at opposite sides. As Kara blew back the glowing hot plasma, she took a glance at Hal. His face was drenched in sweat and his expression pained. "Guys! I don't think I can hold it back!!" He cried. "It's too hot!!"
