"So, you're telling me, that the students are allowed to make their own clubs about anything!?" I asked Cadence who was talking to me about the different clubs. I was sorta, kinda fangirling as she was mentioning the different school clubs and the number of possibilities concerning them.
"Yes! As long as you get enough people to sign a petition! Well, at least, that's what I heard. I am a freshman after all."
"At least you lived in this area for most of your life. I've only been here for a month!" I said. We both then started laughing.
As we were walking, I looked up to see a humongous building in front of us. At first, I thought we had taken a wrong turn or something and ended up at some rich snob's vacation house. I looked at Cadence for reassurance, but she just kept on walking until she was right outside the gates.
She turned around to see me staring at the humongous, yet gorgeous building standing in front of me.
"Are you coming?" She asked.
"Of course...but..." I hesitated.
"It's pretty intimidating, isn't it?"
"Yeah...I'm actually quite terrified, heh..." I said, feeling pretty embarrassed.
"Don't worry, I'm nervous, too." She said, looking down at her shoes.
"That makes me feel somewhat better.." I said unsurely.
"That's the spirit...sort of." She replied.
I caught up to Cadence, who was right in front of the open double gates.
"You ready to be a freshman?" She asked.
To be honest, I wasn't sure how to answer that. I mean, at first, I couldn't wait to be in highschool. The freedom, the opportunities, its endless. But know, I'm not so sure. I guess I never put it into thought that I would be "The New Girl", until now that is. Here I am, right in front of the gates to Melifina.
There's no turning back now.
"Ready as I'll ever be!" I said with a smile.
I closed my eyes, hoping that Cadence did the same. We both took one large step forward. I opened my eyes to see both of us inside the gates, in the front courtyard of the school. I felt really accomplished, even though we both probably looked like fools while doing so. Nevertheless, I'm still proud of myself and Cadence.
"We did it!" Cadence whisper yelled.
"We did...but now, we just have to get through the year..." I said with disappointment.
"Oh, yeah. I forgot about that part..." She said looking discouraged.
"But, it shouldn't be too hard..." I said putting emphasis on too, trying to cheer her up.
"Anyways, I guess this is where we part ways." Said Cadence, disappointed. Wait, what? No way was I gonna be left alone here. I'm basically prey and all the other students are predators, ready to pounce.
"Wait! Don't leave me here, I have no idea where to go." I said, probably sounding desperate.
"Don't you have your schedule? Or your school directory? They sent them all to the middle schoolers coming to highschool."
"No, I wasn't here for middle school. I guess they didn't consider the new kids who didn't go to middle school here."
"Oh. Well, in that case, of course you can stick with me until we get you a schedule. But, you'll be doing most of the talking. Sorry." She said with a small smirk.
"What? Why me?" I asked out of curiosity.
"You know how shy I can be. You saw first hand how shy I can get. Besides, your more braver than me." She said the last part a little quietly.
She thought I was brave? As if. Not even close. No ones ever thought that I was brave. In fact, people thought the exact opposite.
"Please?" She pleaded.
"Ok, I'll do it. Only because you helped me so much." I said.
"For example..." She said, wanting to know how she helped.
"By being my friend, of course." I answered with a smile.
She smiled back.
We both then made our way to the office.
***************
Once we got there, a feeling of relief went through me, and not just because I was about to get my schedule. It was because if the other students.
It felt though as if everyone was staring at me and talking about me. If I'm being honest, I'm not even sure if it actually happened, or if it was all in my head. But real or not, it was still relieving to get out of the "danger zone" and into the schools main office.
Cadence looked at me, being able to tell that something was wrong.
"Are you ok?" Cadence asked. She seemed like she genuinely cared about me.
"Yeah, I'm fine. Just a little nervous." I answered.
"I mean, if you're not up for it, I could ask about your schedule, if you want." She offered.
"Thanks, but no thanks. I have to do this myself." I answered.
I walked towards the front desk, where a lady with sapphire blue hair was sitting. Her hair was tied up in a ponytail and was wearing a light blue long-sleeve shirt.
I looked at the surface of her desk and saw a wooden name plate. It had the name Ms. Harlow permanently carved into it.
Ms. Harlow, which I assume is her name, was paying close attention to her computer that was on a seperate desk apart from the main one when I approached her. She eventually noticed me when she took a quick glance to see who, or what, was blocking her peripheral vision.
She stared at me blankly for a few seconds, which felt like forever, until she finally said something that caught my attention.
She stood up suddenly from the rolling chair she was sitting on, slammed her hands down on her desk and shouted my name for the whole world to hear:
"E-Eli...?!"
A/N: Hey guys and gals! Oh. My. Irene. I haven't updated since last year (or earlier this year, I forgot, oops). I'm a terrible person. I had the worst writer's block of my life. And not to mention how busy I was this summer and how busy I'm going to be since school started two weeks ago for me. Hopefully, I can start updating more often, since my WB is (kinda) gone. I'm SO sorry (if anyone is even reading this cringe lol). BYYYEEEEEEEE ;3
