Ronit never knew he could be this angry; he wanted to kill Siddharth with his bare hands for even touching Manya. When had he turned so possessive about someone? When he had seen both of them hugging and then Siddharth leaning over to kiss Manya. His blood had literally boiled in his veins. Siddharth was the last person he could ever have thought to see Manya with. It had taken all his willpower to stop himself from not punching him more and knocking him down. He was trying to get up; he had split his lip and was bleeding slightly from the corner of his mouth. Good, that ought to teach him, Ronit thought. Manya shook herself off of the shock of seeing Ronit like this and rushed towards Siddharth. She had never seen Ronit so angry or even hitting anyone. But what in the world were he doing here and punching people? She didn't think he would come to the wedding after the way they had left things between them. But guess she didn't know him as well as she thought. She was seeing a whole new side of him she didn't know existed. She helped Siddharth get up and helped him to a chair. He was only bleeding from his lip and didn't seem to hurt anything else, "Are you okay? I am so sorry, are you hurt anywhere else?" she asked him. "Just my pride, nothing else but I will be fine. I guess your boyfriend doesn't like anyone touching his things." Siddharth said looking at Ronit derisively. Ronit wanted to punch him again but Manya felt his intentions and turned to stop him by his shoulders, "You just stay there, I'll get back to you." Manya said in a clipped, angry voice. She turned back to Siddharth, "You should put some ice on it or it will swell up pretty bad. I'll go with you." "No you stay here, you have more important issues to deal with, I'll get the ice myself." With that Siddharth left the terrace leaving two very angry people together. Manya turned towards Ronit, ready for a fight, "Why the hell did you behave so abominably? What were you thinking? How could you punch someone like this?" Manya said in a single breath before she lost her nerve. She was all but shouting at him with her hands at her hips. Thankfully the terrace was far from where the guests were or their shouting would have created quite a scene. Ronit was feeling abnormally angry right now and ready to lash out at anyone, even Manya, "You are one to question. What were you doing hugging your ex-boyfriend and letting him kiss you? Did you forget you were still in a relationship with me?" "He was just comforting me; that's what friends do or you have totally forgotten the concept?" "Oh yeah sure, he was just comforting you, why didn't I think of it before? What do you take me for, a fool? "Don't believe me if you want; I am not standing here and listening to any more of your bullshit." With this she turned to go, but Ronit caught her arm and pulled her back, "What were you two talking about huh? Were you planning to leave me and go back to him? Is that what you two were planning? Did he promise you everything I hadn't?" Ronit was beyond hurting now. Manya hadn't asked anything about him; on the contrary, she was shouting at him for hitting her ex. He was feeling so angry and hurt; he didn't care what he said. He just wanted to hurt her as he was hurting right now. Manya was taken aback by Ronit's words; did he think so low of her? How could he even imagine she could ever do anything like this? She was too angry to reply anything, "Leave my hand" Manya said through gritted teeth. "Answer me first" Ronit replied and pulled her closer to him, bringing his mouth down and kissing her. He was punishing her, punishing her for making him feel this way, for hurting him. Manya was too dazed to do anything; she felt herself soften under his touch; No! She can't let this happen. She had to preserve whatever dignity she had left. She pushed him away with all her might and slapped him. Both of them were breathing heavily; Ronit was shocked by her reaction; he never knew Manya could hit anyone, let alone him, "Don't you dare touch me again" Manya said in a low voice with barely contained anger and stormed out from there, leaving Ronit standing alone on the terrace.
It had been almost a month since that fateful day- when Manya had left him. Ronit had plenty of time to cool off since then and realize what a big idiot he had been. He had gone to Jaipur that to sort things out with Manya and him and had only succeeded in worsening them. And worse they were; she had moved all her stuff from his apartment and had refused to see him at all; even at work. She was not taking any of his calls and had returned all the flowers he had send in a shredded heap- and this was a person who loved flowers. This meant she was beyond angry with him and who can blame her. He had behaved like an idiot. He was running out of ideas to put things right between them. He couldn't even bear to think that Manya was out of his life now; he had to bring her back, he just had to. He had tried talking to her parents but they had obviously taken her side. Her sisters, though sympathetic towards him, hadn't offered any help to him. He was getting desperate now. He was sitting in his office but his mind was hardly on his work. He had several reports he had to check and complete by the end of the week but all he could think of was how to get Manya back. He had tried everything in the book and failed; it was time he took the bull by his horns. He went downstairs to the reception and asked Laxmi, sitting there, "Is Dr.Manya scheduled for any surgeries today?" Laxmi was a little shaken by the appearance of the Boss himself; she had had limited contact with him since she has worked there and he always managed to scare her every time, "I'll just look sir." She flustered through the files trying to find the right one. Ronit was getting impatient now, how long did it take to find a file? He tapped his fingers on the desk which made Laxmi more anxious, she tried to remember where Dr.Manya was scheduled and said from her memory, "Yes sir, Dr.Manya is scheduled for surgery in the minor O.T3 right now." Ronit rushed towards the O.T even before she had a chance to finish her sentence. He would have rushed straight inside if the nurse standing outside hadn't stopped him to scrub up before entering the O.T. Damn it! He didn't have time for these things right now! Still he scrubbed up and rushed inside. Apparently Manya had just finished the procedure as she was standing to go and giving the junior resident instructions to wind up. She was in full operating gear: the mouth mask, head cap everything. She stopped in her track on seeing him and before she could say anything, he started saying, "Look Manya, I know you are very angry with me but just give me this chance. I acted like an idiot and I deserve all your anger. I couldn't bear the thought of losing you and when I saw you hugging him, I just blew my lid off. I didn't know what I was saying, what I was doing. I know that's no excuse for what I did but please understand my position. I am madly in love with you and I just can't think of anybody else touching you; I just couldn't bear it. I want you all to myself and if that means changing myself, I am ready. I am ready to give you anything you want. So from the bottom of my heart, with everything I own I ask you, will you marry me please?" with this he got down on one knee and looked down. She had not uttered a word during his ranting, for that matter nobody had. Both the nurses and the junior resident were looking at him as if he was an alien. The minor O.T was in deathly silence; he was surprised that they couldn't hear his heart beating loudly. After what seem like ages, she pulled her mask down and said, "I would marry you right now but sadly I just got married a month back and I don't think my husband would like that." Ronit looked up in surprise at Manya only it wasn't Manya. Anya was looking down at him smilingly and a little pitifully. He got up from his crouching position and said, "What are you doing here, Manya was supposed to do this surgery." Before Anya could say anything, Manya came from behind, "What's going on here?" Anya turned towards her with an amused smile, "Your boyfriend just proposed to me." Manya turned a quizzical expression towards him; Ronit also turned to look at her, "What are you doing there; you were suppose to be in her position." "I was scheduled to do surgery in O.T2 today." Manya said in a confused tone, not getting at all what was going on. "No, that nurse told me that you were scheduled in O.T3" On hearing this, both Anya and Manya said in unison, "Laxmi!" and shook their heads. What was going in here? He had just laid his heart out and that too for the wrong girl. This was becoming very embarrassing. Anya turned towards Manya and said, "I think you both should talk now, I'll finish up your surgery if you want." "No, I was finished by now, the resident is just closing things up." Manya looked at Ronit; he was looking decidedly embarrassed and uncomfortable. She wanted to rush and hug him, make everything right again. The past month had been the worst of her life; she knew Ronit wanted to work things out but she was hurting too much to give him any chance. But now was the time to talk things out. She turned towards Ronit, "I think we should talk." With that she marched towards get out of her scrubs. Ronit followed behind her silently; she might have forgiven him but she wasn't going to let him know that before she could hear what he had to say for himself. They rode up the elevator to her office in silence. She entered her office with him behind her and closed the door. She stood by her desk and turned towards him, "Speak, what did you want to talk about so urgently that you couldn't have waited for me finish a surgery." Ronit looked at her, God! He had missed her. He just wanted to take her in his arms and kiss her. But she still looked pretty angry with him and he didn't want to ruin things further. "I don't know where to start, I had worked up everything and I just said it all of it, just to the wrong girl. Now it seems I have no words left inside me." He paused and took a step closer towards her; she didn't move away, he took that as a good sign. "I said a lot of things down there, I won't say everything again just this one, marry me Manya. Just be with me; I can't bear to be away from you any longer. This past month has been living hell for me and I don't want to go through it again. Only you can save me from my personal hell. Please marry me and be mine." "Are you saying all this just because I want to hear them?" Manya said in a quiet voice. "No! I really mean them. If staying away from you has taught me anything is that I am incomplete without you. Each day, each hour, each minute was so tough on me I can never put it in words. I have always wanted you, needed you. Please don't leave me." Ronit said getting desperate. He stepped forwards and caught her hands in his own; he pulled her towards him, she did so without resisting. He put his arms around her, "Please say yes", he whispered. She looked in his eyes and smiled, there were tears glistening in her eyes, making them luminescent, "What makes you think I'll say no?"
