It had been almost two weeks, and Erin's profile still wouldn't come up. Zane kept typing in her username over and over again whenever he logged on; it would be the first thing he did. Josh admitted to trying as well, but it didn't even work for him.
JoshRogersInTheHouse!!: Seriously dude, it's like she doesn't exist. This is crazy.
Zaneiack: i know. something's wrong. i just know it.
Zane put his phone down and sighed. He turned his attention back to the television, where President Levi Ben-Judah was making a speech. Something about society becoming better, or something like that. It had been less than a year since he became president, and already everyone knew his life story.
He was elected after leading only five men into the enemies' headquarters during the end World War III in Iran. He was originally born in the Middle East to a young woman who wasn't married when she had him; she had been assaulted by an American tourist. He was raised in the worst part of his city, and he was forced to do odd jobs around his town (which is not easy if your mother is thought to be a permiscuous woman). But he loved people. He had a passion to change the world. He managed to get a good amount of education, then joined the American army to when World War III started. When the war was over, both America and it's alliances and the Middle Eastern leaders wanted Levi Ben-Judah to become their rulers. Levi accepted both, uniting the Middle East and America, and bringing peace to more than half of the world. They even went so far as to change the constitution just so he could become president of the United States. He also gained the respect of America's allies, China and France, and became governor of both nations. The other nations now not only respect him, but revered him. Like a god.
"It's already been three years", the president said, smiling his big, gentle smile, "and already the world has learned to forgive and forget; to love each other, despite our differences and beliefs." President Ben-Judah then suddenly became downcast. "However, there are still people who do not wish for the world to unite the way we have. I have tried my best to show them the truth, but they are adamant in their belief."
Zane's Facebook notification went off. It was Josh.
JoshRogersInTheHouse!!: I hear it isn't just us. A few other kids online said this stuff was happening to them too. Even some kids at my school were complaining about it.
Zaneiack: Huh, weird. Maybe we should talk to them. Keep each other updated.
JoshRogersInTheHouse!!: Sounds good to me. I'll contact some of them now :)
Zane turned off his phone and returned his attention back to the television. ".....television disruptions. This is an act of terrorism against this country and what it was built on," the president said sadly. "I am not happy with this course of action. I wish that there was another way. However, if they are firm in their conviction, then we must stand firm in ours. Already we have arrested and... executed those who want to destroy what, really, they claim they stand for: the freedom for mankind."
Zane couldn't help but blink in surprise. Executed? They still do that today? I thought we were trying to lower the death toll.
His phone buzzed again, pulling him out of his thoughts.
JoshRogersInTheHouse!!: Hey so there's this girl that going through the same issue as us. She can't contact her boyfriend and hasn't seen him in a week. She says she'll talk to us about it if Thursday works for us.
Zaneiack: It's Facebook. Of course it works for us.
JoshRogersInTheHouse!!: I already told her we could do it.
Zaneiack: K
"Zane Kealer", Mom exclaimed as she walked into the room with a laundry basket, "you can't be on two electronics. Pick the TV or the phone."
Zane quickly obeyed his mom, slipping his phone into his pocket. "Anything good on?", Mom asked as she dumped the clothes out on the couch.
"Just the news", Zane answered. "President Ben-Judah was just talking about how they're taking care of the terrorists."
Mom nodded. "It's a good thing President Ben-Judah is governing us. Our country would still be crazy if it wasn't for him. I've never felt safer."
"Didn't you and Dad meet him?", Zane asked.
"Yes!", she answered excitedly. "It was for the zoning regulations for the statue. He was so nice to us. Took us out to lunch as a thank you." She set down another folded towel. "Actually, we were personally invited to the picnic he's holding up in Washington next month."
"A picnic? What's the occasion?"
"There doesn't have to be an occasion for the world to have a picnic, Zane. President Ben-Judah insisted that we have a big celebration for the whole world."
Zane cocked his head to the side slightly. "So, is the whole world coming?"
Mom shrugged. "Oh, I don't know, but I wouldn't put it past the president to do something like that. He's such a good man."
Zane nodded in agreement as he stared back at the TV where a commercial for Life Water was playing for the upteenth time. I wonder if Erin is going to the picnic. She always posts pictures of her going on some picnics with her family. She would probably have fun at this picnic, especially since so many people might be coming. Maybe even Josh will be there. I'll have to ask him about it later.
