Prologue

The morning alarm blared through the barracks. My fellow troopers sighed and I heard many feet hit the floor. I was never one to get up as fast as the others, I took my time and everyone knew it. I sleepily pulled on my base layer of black compression clothes and stood up in front of my bed.

"You're actually up?" Someone questioned from behind me.

I turned around to face MK-4973, "Yeah, I just feel like today is going to be different. I wouldn't want to miss it."

He stuck out his tongue, "Whatever you say."

Mimicking him I started putting on my armor and it felt heavier than usual. My helmet felt like a nuisance instead of comfort. Shaking off my thoughts I marched out the door with the rest of the troopers. The halls were busy as always, but something was off.

"LR-3915, General Hux requests your presence..." A higher up catches me off guard.

I turn to follow him but am quickly stopped by his next order, "Without your armor."

The order was unordinary, troopers were never allowed to roam the halls without uniform. My higher up followed me back to the barracks and waited outside the door whilst I took the shiny white costume off.

"Lead the way." I smile to him, not knowing his response due to the helmet.

The walk seemed like forever, but I couldn't help but feel a powerful force coming from the opposite side of the base.

Strange, I thought.

We approached a large set of double doors and the trooper stood aside as if cueing my entrance into the room. Taking a deep breath I braced myself for what was to come.

Any talk between the commanders seized when I walked in. Instantly I saluted them and Hug visibly scoffed.

"LR-3915, take a seat." The General spoke almost pleasantly, much different than the tone I was used to hearing.

I sat between a man and a woman, both of which smiled politely at me. All of these gestures were new coming from such powerful people.

My thought was interrupted by the red headed general, "You're probably wondering what you are doing here."

"An explanation would be nice." My voice noticeably nervous.

He rolled his eyes, "You're not in trouble. In fact, Lord Ren has a special task for you."

"What?" I was shocked. Lord Ren, the Lord Ren had a special task for me.

Hux gritted his teeth, "Yes, now if you'd let me finish."

Nodding my head to him he straightened himself, "We know the location of a major Resistance Base, however, none of us could go there without being held captive for who knows how long. You're young, they seem to like people around your age."

I must have been visibly confused because a woman, no older than Hux stepped up to talk, "You're to be stripped of your duties as a Stormtrooper and will be promoted to Major rank among us. You will no longer be addressed as LR-3915, but as Lark."

She smiled at me and stepped back, allowing Hux to talk once more,"You will be dispatched in a small cargo ship with a disposable pilot and sent to a location just outside their base. You're ship will crash and the pilot will die, but you will come out alive, injured, but alive. I can't promise their scouts to come quickly but you will wait until you are retrieved. Act scared, like you escaped from us. After a month you should have gained their trust enough to be able to transmit information to us so we can attack and wipe out the base. You're work on this mission will prove your dedication to The First Order."

I placed my hands on my temples, taking in all this information. I was no longer a trooper, something that I had been ever since I could remember. I had a name, Lark. I wondered who came up with it.

"You leave in two days. Please be ready Lark, the fate of our success rests in your hands."
