Chapter Six.

I’d never been to Zayn’s house before, so even considering the circumstances I was excited.

“Do you mind if we make a quick stop before we go to my place?” Zayn asked, not taking his eyes off the road.

“No of course not.” I replied smiling over to him.

We drove down a somewhat familiar road and all of a sudden I realised where we were headed. I looked over at Zayn, my mouth agape. I couldn’t figure out why he was bringing me here.

“I want you to tell him what’s going on Steph.” Zayn said obviously sensing my doubts. “He really fancies you, you know? At least tell him what happened.” I stared at him with wide eyes, I could tell he was fighting back a chuckle.

“He’s expecting you, so head straight up.” Zayn told me as we pulled up. I turned to the door to get out of the car and stopped for a second as the cool air greeted my bare skin. I turned around to look at Zayn and he gave me a reassuring smile. I rolled my eyes at him and walked towards Niall’s front door. I knocked on the door and within seconds Niall was there embracing me in a tight hug and pulling me inside his warm house. He took my hand and pulled me upstairs to his bedroom, sitting down on his bed and patting the spot beside him. I gave him a small smile and sat down. I played with the doona cover, trying my hardest not to look at Niall. His beautiful blue eyes had the power to melt me and I knew once I looked into them, the tears would form and overflow.

“Spill the beans kiddo.” He said trying to meet my gaze. I finally allowed myself to look up at him and took a deep breath.

“I’m moving in with Zayn.” I blurted out. At first he just looked shocked, but then he smiled willing me to continue. “It’s not because I have feelings for him, I swear.” I stated. “Mum got mad when she found out that I didn’t go to grandmas and kicked me out. I was on the bus home when she called and I didn’t want to bother you again. I didn’t know who else to call Niall, I’m sorry.” I whined and he just smiled.

“Anyway, Zayn picked me up from a bus stop in the middle of I don’t know where, and took me home to grab my stuff. Mum was over the top mad, and ended up getting into another fight about dad, and then..” I paused I couldn’t say it, it was embarrassing for a girl to tell someone that their own mother hated them enough to slap them across the face.

“Please tell me.” He said, taking my hand in his and rubbing my palm. His eyes were filled with sadness, I quickly moved my gaze from his eyes back down to the doona.

“She um, she hit me, across the cheek, nothing drastic just enough to scare me I was in shock.” I said, allowing myself to look at him once more. He pulled me into his chest and kissed my forehead.

“It’ll be ok Steph. Everything is going to work out fine.” He tried his best to reassure me.

“But it’s not Niall is it?” I was starting to get angry. I sat up and looked him in the eyes. “I don’t have a job and I don’t care what any of you say I refuse to mooch off you guys. I want to spend as little time possible at Zayn’s. I’m such a poor excuse for a human being, mum was right.” I hung my head, resting my elbows on my knees, my head in my hands. I let the tears fall freely now. Niall grabbed me by the shoulders and shook me lightly, I looked up at him.

“Steph, don’t be ridiculous, I’ll help you go job hunting. In fact I already have some ideas in mind. You’re so talented, I’m sure employers will be jumping out of their skin to hire you.” He smiled and I sighed. He got off the bed, extending his hand to me and I took it. “Now, let’s get you to Zayn’s so you can get settled in. I believe he has quite the surprise for you.” Niall smirked and began to chuckle.
