The Lake

After a few minutes of sitting watching the sunset in the water, Stephen speaks up.

"We should probably get back to the others before it gets too dark." He stands up and reaches his hand down to me. I take his hand and stand up off the fallen tree, he takes a step back but trips over a root or fallen branch and falls backward into the lake. I cautiously walk to the edge so I don't face the same fate as Stephen. When he surfaces his hair is all over his face and he is spitting out water, I couldn't help but start laughing at him. As he stood in the waist deep water watching me laugh.

"If you are done laughing would you mind helping me out." He says reaching a hand out to me. My laughing subsides for the most part and I reach my hand down to help him up out of the water. As he grabs my hand a devilish smirk appears on his face and I regret my decision to help right away. He pulls my hand towards him, evidently pulling me into the lake with him. I barely have time to yell as I go underwater for a few seconds before emerging next to Stephen.

"That was not very nice," I state.

"Well, then you shouldn't have laughed at me."

"But that was funny."

"Then me pulling you into the water was also funny."

"You know what else is funny or more fun?"

"What?"

"This." I use my hands to basically throw a ton of water over to Stephen getting him right in the face. I step away from Stephen with a smirk on my face as he recovers.

"So that is how this is going to go." He says wiping water off his face. He takes a step towards me and I step back towards deeper water, but he moves quickly and I don't have time to get away. Within a few seconds, his hands are on my shoulders holding me in one place, He takes a breath and falls backward into the water pulling me with him.

We surface a minute later and I glare at him but he just smiles. That is when I get an Idea I take a breath and go under and swim around so I am Behind him under the water. I quickly emerge jumping onto his back shoving him under. He turns to face me after wiping water away from his eyes.

"We should probably get back soon." He states glaring at me. I look up to see the sun has fully set and there is not much light in the sky to see by. As I look back down Stephen takes me being distracted to splash my face with water. I am about to get him back but he held up his hands in surrender.

"Let's get back so we can dry off," Stephen says while walking towards the edge of the water pulling himself up onto dry land. Water flows off of him like a river as he gets out. I walk to the edge and Stephen reaches his hand down and helps pull me out. We quickly walked back to where we were camped out, we noticed that his brother and dad looked to be asleep or almost asleep so we stayed as quiet as we could.

Stephen Added a few logs to the fire as it had almost gone out and I grabbed a few blankets and started to use one to try and dry off as much as I could. Stephen did the same with one of the others I had grabbed. I know that it is bad to stay in wet clothes but I don't have a change of clothes due to the fact that this is not my time. So I just wrapped up in the blanket I had been drying off in.

Stephen had taken a layer of shirts off and hung it up to dry. He ditched the damp blanket and grabbed the dry one and sat in front of the fire to dry even further. I stood a few feet away from him when he noticed he spoke.

"You know you could come close to the fire and dry off quicker. I won't bite promise."

"You sure about that?" I say in a mocking tone.

"Yes now come over here so you can dry off." I walk over and sit down next to Stephen, he watched this and a few seconds after sitting down and getting somewhat comfortable he pulls me over so I was sitting in between his legs. He took the damp blanket and placed it in front of me so it covered my legs and would also be dried by the fire.

"What was that for," I ask

"Well you will be closer to the fire and more body heat it will keep us warm and this is the last dry blanket we have." He says motioning to the one he has wrapped around him. I don't try to argue as much as I want to as he does have a point.

"Should be one more night after this before making it to the house as long as everything goes smoothly," Stephen says softly sounding tired.

"I guess you have a point but you are basically a stranger."

"Not really I mean we spent basically a whole day on one horse together just talking. And we did just have a fight in the lake."

"Ok mister whatever you say," I say with sarcasm though he doesn't seem to notice. After a while I start to feel really tired, swimming seems to do that to me and after a few more minutes I slowly fall asleep. My head falls on Stephen's chest and my muscles completely relax and I fall into a deep sleep.

The next morning I wake up to movement behind me I almost screamed when memories of the past 24 hours came back to me. I was about to curl back into Stephen's chest when he spoke.

"Kira wake up we have to get going now wake up." he shakes me a little to help try and wake me up.

"Ugh, why do you wake me at this ungodly hour." I moan out as I move into a sitting position and Stephen stands up.

"I don't know about you but I would like to get to the house sooner rather than later. Here eat this." He hands me some bread which I happily munch on. Every once in a while he snatches a pice to eat. Normally if someone were to do that I would get mad but seen as he and his dad and his brother were saddling the horses, putting everything away making sure the fire was out I let it slide. Soon enough We were back on the horses and on our way.
