Ode to Soccer

The scent of fresh grass fills up my nose
When I put on my cleats, they touch my toes.
The game will soon start,
The whistle is blown
My family and I part
My stomach starts to moan.
I think seven years back,
When it was my birthday
I brought a wonderful snack!

Cupcakes with soccer balls was what I brought,
My best friend's mom made them carefully, with thought.
I blink out of my reverie and look at the field
The game is about to start so hurry I will!

I run down the field with the ball at my feet
There is a girl in front of me, her I beat!
I twist and I turn, doing so well,
Until a girl pushed me very hard, so yes, I fell!
The bland taste of dirt is now in my mouth,
The freshly cut grass softly rubs against my skin
The whistle is blown, I now hear a piercing shout
The girl that pushed me, she felt like pins!

I'm in my dull colored room, I look around
A stack of gleaming trophies and medals,
My tiny heart pounds.
I think of the times I scored a goal,
This happy memory revives my dead soul.

We are up late, I'm starving to death,
So I grab the pizza box, holding my breath
I let go when I see a slice,
Then I think of something pleasant and nice
I take a big bite, I love the salty cheese,
I taste the tomato and then I'm like "Jeeze!"
I remember eating at the party of success
We laughed and we played, we were the best!

My teacher recognizes me for doing well on my test
I love how she says it, with confidence and choice
My class loudly applauds and says I'm the best!
Which causes me to recall a time.
My soccer team and I p, we won the game
Everyone said she'd remember our name
I'm back in class, we're playing a game
On the board we're writing our names
The toxic smell of marker fills up my nose,
I remember those cleats, they touched my toes!
